XVI—Frank

Frank read the line over for what seemed like the hundredth time.

‘In the midst of chaos, there is always opportunity. In the midst of chaos, there is always opportunity. In the midst of chaos, there is always--

--opportunity.’

The word was burned into his mind, for whatever reason—he just felt like it was important.

‘In the midst of chaos, there is always opportunity. In the midst of chaos, there is always opportunity. In the midst of—

--chaos. . .’

Frank’s life was chaos.

He let the book fall from his hand.

The title shone in bold, golden text on the black cover, ‘THE ART OF WAR: SUN TZU’

Frank sighed.

He hoped that if he just looked like he was thinking hard, he would be hit by epiphanies of mind-blowing proportions.

Or at least have the slightest idea as to what to do next.

He wasn’t expecting a full blueprint to appear in his head detailed with every tiny step they needed to defeat Gaea (although that would have been a gift Frank would not decline).

All he needed was the smallest clue—

How would he capture the Teumessian vixen, for example?

And subsequently save Nico’s and his own lives?

‘Anything to pitch in?’ Frank tried, asking the war gods in his head-- but ever since he had received Mars’ blessing in Venice, the voices had stopped talking.

“Great, now the both of you decide to shut up! the son of Mars muttered, angrily.

Frank let his head drop to the mess hall table. It hit the wood with a loud thud.

Ow,” he groaned, miserably.

The hairs stood on the back of his neck as he felt the eyes of someone trained on him from the doorway.

His head whipping up, Frank relaxed at the sight of Hazel, managing a tired half-smile at his girlfriend.

“Looks like you’ve got it all figured out then?” she joked, half-heartedly as she shuffled her way over to Frank.

The son of Mars instinctively laced his fingers through Hazel’s own, planting a distracted kiss to her forehead.

“Mm,” he groaned, hugging her closer towards him. “Almost.”
