march 16: holland, 10 weeks pregnant
i see juliana start to run after melanie but i grab her. "holland, i need to punch that bitch! she cannot mess with my best friend and expect me not to beat her ass." juliana says and while i'm glad that i have such a protective best friend, i know that a fight will only cause more drama for all of us."i know and although i would love to watch you punch her, i know that it would just make everything worse." i sigh as everyone continues to stare at me. i saw melanie yesterday, she told me she wanted to work on some homework with me so i told her to come over to my house. i guess she looked at my phone and then found my ultrasound photos when i went to the bathroom.
cameron puts his hand on my shoulder, "you need to go to the principal and tell him about what melanie did.".
"i know, can you guys go with me?" i ask as a tear escapes my eye.
"of course we will." juliana says while giving me a hug.
"miss. wright, what brings you to my office today?" our principal, mr. baker, asks me as cameron, juliana, and i walk into his office.
"i recently found out that i am pregnant with twins," i start and his eyes widen, "and my so called friend, melanie fields, went into my phone, read my text messages to cameron and juliana about the pregnancy, stole my ultrasound photos and created an instagram page to tell everyone about the pregnancy, insult me, and to spread false rumors.". my eyes cloud with tears again and i pull up the page to show him.
"i am so sorry that this is happening to you, holland, but how do you know that miss fields is responsible?" mr baker asks me.
"she walked past me in the hall today and told me that i wasn't so perfect now and to never set my phone password as my birthday." i say and the bell rings signaling that school is starting.
"i will call her down to the office as soon as the morning announcements are over with. here's a note for you three, you can head to your first period. good luck, miss. wright." he gives me a sympathetic look. cameron, juliana, and i get up and start walking to chemistry class.
as we walk into the classroom, i feel all eyes on me. we quickly give our notes to mrs owen and take our seats just as the morning announcements start. "good morning, students of ocean wood highschool! baseball and softball tryouts are today at 3:15, everyone will meet in the gym, we hope to see you there. in other sports news, our golf team won first place this past weekend! go eagles! math team meets afterschool today at 3:20 in mr. williams room. i hope you all have a wonderful day!" our secretary leads the morning announcements. i had totally forgotten that baseball tryouts are today.
"alright class, today is going to be a 'catch up' day! or free day if you've done all your work. you guys have been working so hard and i think we all need a break!" mrs. owen says. the whole class cheers and i mentally thank her.
"cameron?", i whisper and he looks up, "you're trying out for baseball today, right?".
"yes! coach blake said i have a good shot at making the varsity team! if i do, i'll be the first sophomore ever to be on the varsity team!" cameron beams at me and i smile back, i love hearing him talk about something he's so passionate about.
"that's awesome, cam! i would love to watch you try out." i say while taking out my extra credit to turn in.
"i'm sure that coach blake will let you." he smiles at me just as the announcements come back on.
"we need melanie fields to come to the principal's office. melanie fields." the voice says. i breathe in sharply and cameron grabs my hands.
"it'll all be okay, hopefully she'll just confess. she'll probably get detention or get suspended." cameron reassures me.
