I stood next to Landon. "They kicking you out?" I asked. "Kicking out means I had the opportunity to stay here. In this case, I didn't. I'm leaving without that opportunity and being forced." Landon said. "I would never do that to someone in my pack. Then again, my best friend told me once that my generosity and open-mindedness would be my downfall. Evidently, it was." I said with a shrug. "Boy, if I had the supernatural ability to know what happened to you." Landon said with a smile and chuckle. I laughed. "Trust me. Sometimes. It's better not knowing." I said with a smile. "This is a weird looking knife." I said. "I thought the same thing last night. It sort of calls out to you doesn't it." Landon said walking over to me. "Yeah..." I said staring at the knife with glowing red eyes. "Dude you good?" Landon asked. I shook my head and my vision went back to normal. "Yeah. Sorry." I said. He chuckled. "You looked like you were entranced by an evil witch." Landon said. I laughed as I walked away. "Let's hope that never happens." I said. I stopped and turned around. "Landon...If this was my pack...I'd have already accepted you. Except my best friend would've done an extensive background check on you to make sure you weren't a psychopath." I said furrowing my eyebrows. "You have a weird best friend." Landon said furrowing his own brows. "Those are the best kind. Also his name is weird so it kind of fits." I said walking away.
Hours Later
I sat on the bus with Landon. "Dude you didn't have to come with me." Landon said. "Yes I did. If I didn't...I would be going against everything I am." I said looking at him. "You seriously didn't." Landon said. "Well...too bad. I'm staying." I said. He chuckled as I put earbuds into my ears, listening to music. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
Hope POV
"How do you know it was them?" I asked Alaric. "Ancient artifact goes missing along with too-good-to-be-true hapless human and a Tri-Alpha werewolf? You do the math, Hope." Alaric said. "That would make them liars, okay? I've known my fair share of those, and there was nothing about them..." "Hope..." "No, you don't understand. There's no way that the one time that I choose to get close to people, they turn out to be liars. It's not possible, okay? I'm not that stupid." I said. "When he walked out that door, we compelled him to go home." Ric said. "So?" I asked. "So he didn't. It's the first place we checked. And if he didn't go home, that means his memory wasn't erased. He was just pretending that it was. If his mind can't be controlled by a supernatural being, then that only means one thing. That he is a supernatural being." Alaric answered. "What about Scott?" I asked crossing my arms. "Scott went with Landon meaning he must have known that Landon was going to steal the knife. So much for being a True Alpha." Alaric said. "He couldn't have. Scott earned his Alpha status he wouldn't willingly go with Landon knowing he would steal the knife. That's not the Scott I know." I said. "He said so himself, Hope. He's not the same person you saw in his mind. He's changed more than you think he has. We don't know what he is capable of. Same goes for Landon. Whether you like it not, the two of them are a danger to us all. Landon could uncover the supernatural world and Scott could be a downfall because of what he is and who he is. They need to be stopped." He said. I stood speechless trying to process what he had just told me.
"For ten years we've gone undetected. Protecting you, protecting our secret has been our singular mission. Tonight I need your help to find Landon Kirby and Scott McCall before they expose us all." Alaric announced at a school meeting. I glanced over at a silent deadpanned Rafael.
10 minutes later
I entered the room of Josie and Lizzie. "I need your help." I said looking at Josie. "Three more words to me than your annual average. Find someone else." Josie answered. I closed the door behind me. "This stuff with Landon and Scott is my fault. I can fix it. I know how to track them, but it involves using a dark magic." I said. "Well, we're not allowed to use dark magic here, so..." Josie said. "Says the girl who just lit her ex on fire." I said. "Are you blackmailing me?" Josie asked. "No. No, I'm just looking a kindred spirit in revenge." I answered. A few minutes later, we were sitting on the floor as we performed the tracking spell to find Scott and Landon. Eventually we did. I saw Landon with the knife and Scott with his eyes glowing blood red as he looked at it. He pressed his hands to his head shaking it. "What's up with Scott's eyes?" Josie asked. "They're the eyes of an Alpha. The eyes of the Alphas of his werewolf species." I said. His eyes went back to normal and he looked at Landon. The knife began to glow and Scott took it from Landon. The knife began to glow brighter in Scott's hand. He looked at it confused. He raised the knife away from him as the knife went white and a bright light enveloped him and Landon.
Alaric and I stood on Route 29 where a bus was surrounded by yellow caution tape. Not promising. "Called in favor with a buddy at State Patrol, asked him to lock down the scene till we got here. Local PD thinks it was a chemical spill." Sheriff Donovan said. "What's the actual story?" Alaric asked. "I'll leave that to you to figure out." Donovan said. "All right, thanks Sheriff." Alaric said. Funny how life works. After years of pushing people away, I opened up my heart to Landon Kirby, the human in the wrong place at the right time who just needed a place to belong. And an old friend, Scott McCall who was dealing with demons of his own that even he thinks is dangerous. Turns out, Landon and Scott aren't the heroes of my story at all. I got onto the bus with Alaric ans looked inside. What I saw was nothing heroic. Everyone was incinerated. But when I hunt them down, I'm gonna be the villain of theirs.
