Sorry for the republish everyone but I looks at it this morning and realized it just didn't have the first few paragraphs. And I don't even know why. But anyway here's the rant in its entirety I'll mark the point where the old stuff starts. I think the end got a little screwed up too but just in formatting and stuff. Idk sometimes I hate Wattpad. And sorry because what y'all saw started really randomly and out of the blue. If it wasn't 2am when I posted it, hopefully I would have noticed it.
Remember when Steve went just hard enough on Peter to get himself away, because he wanted nothing less than to hurt the kid? Remember when he offered him words of encouragement as a kid trying to figure out his powers, in the middle of a battle where they were on opposite sides?
Remember when Clint pulled his punches against a master assassin because that assassin was his best friend, no matter whose teams they were on? Remember when Natasha did nothing except try to keep the team together and try to keep her family from getting hurt, and if that meant switching sides and getting arrested so be it?
REMEMBER WHEN THE WHOLE REASON THE AIRPORT FIGHT HAPPENED WAS THAT TONY REFUSED TO LET THEM KILL STEVE AND THE OTHERS?
REMEMBER WHEN SAM BASICALLY TURNED HIMSELF IN BECAUSE HE WAS TRYING TO SAVE RHODEY, WHEN HE WASN'T EVEN THE ONE WHO SHOT HIM DOWN? Guys, Sam could have gotten away there. He could have used Rhodey's fall to his advantage and flown right after Steve and Bucky. But that didn't even cross his mind. They were teammates all over again, and his friend was in trouble.
There were three people at that airport who could have flown after Rhodey. Two did. Tony and Sam. As Tony desperately tried to get under him, Sam was doing the exact same thing from the other direction (don't even get me started on Vision in that scene this is one of the key reasons I hate him). Sam landed, apologized for something that wasn't his fault, and in the process allowed himself to be put into prison. Oh yeah, and then when he was in that prison, the first thing he asked about was Rhodey. Remember that?
First off, Sam and Rhodey are both such underrated characters. Their fierce loyalty, their willingness to do anything for their friends, and their selflessness are amazing character traits they share, but they are still both extremely distinct characters, and they both play such vital parts in the MCU. I just wish they would get more love.
Second, I'm not saying it makes it better because Civil War still makes me sob. But this is exactly what I'm talking about, guys. Neither Steve nor Tony nor anyone else on that team wanted to fight each other.
That was never Steve's plan... Honestly when he said he wouldn't sign the accords I'm sure he never dreamed it was going to make him fight his friends. He wasn't planning on fighting them when he defended Bucky, either. He was just trying to stand by the person who had always, always stood by him because he knew that Bucky in his right mind didn't kill all those people and he knew that Bucky didn't kill T'Chaka at all. And don't you think for a minute that when it became him and his teammates against his teammates it didn't absolutely kill him.
That was also never what Tony wanted. Never forget that the only reason they ended up doing battle against each other is that TONY DIDN'T WANT HIS FRIENDS TO DIE. That's it. That's the fight. That fight didn't have to happen... Tony could have let them send in people who would have shot to kill. But he couldn't. He wouldn't. And that's the thing. No one there was fighting to do anything but win because they believed they were fighting for what was right.
Now I'm not saying either Steve or Tony is completely innocent in Civil War but honestly I just feel so bad for both of them. Especially because Tony being wounded in different ways is what caused that final, awful split. I mean first, Rhodey goes down. Tony was worked up enough about that and don't think for a minute that the way he was snapping at his team was for any reason except because he was feeling worried and guilty and he was hurting from his friend's loss.
this is where the old stuff starts
And then the thing with his parents. I'm not saying it was the right way to react I'm saying it was the human way to react. Imagine it... Your friend's best friend killed your parents and your friend knew about it but didn't tell you. Whether Bucky was being mind controlled or not, just think about how that would have felt for Tony. And before that, they are still friends.100%.
"You go alone, as a friend." "Easy." That was easy because they were still friends. No member of the Avengers stopped thinking of the people on the other side of the split as their friends over those stupid accords or that stupid airport fight. In fact, no one except Tony to Steve stops thinking of anyone else as their friend at all. That's obvious when they're finally reunited. And Steve and Tony make peace, my friends. THEY BECOME FRIENDS AGAIN AND I WILL NEVER STOP CELEBRATING THAT.
I guess it's like this. The hero of Civil War? Steve. Not perfect, but he is the hero. Not hard to see coming, seeing as it is not an Avengers movie, but rather a Captain America movie. There are two other key GOOD GUYS in that film. They are Bucky and Tony. And they are the victims. It's as simple as that. Bucky was first brainwashed, and then he was framed and sent on the run from the government. Tony was put in difficult situation after difficult situation and was carrying around way too much guilt, on top of his anxiety, and then he discovered he had been lied to about the death of his parents. V
ICTIM.
That was a lot and it went in a lot of different directions but the point is, even in the midst of Civil War, the love that team has for each other is beautiful. And the villains of that movie are the government, and most of all Zemo. So STOP PAINTING STEVE OR TONY AS THE VILLAIN YOU'RE COMPLETELY MISSING ALL OF THE DEPTH OF THAT MOVIE.
Rant over.
