Ok rant time.
WHY DO SO MANY IRONDAD AUTHORS FIND THE NEED TO KILL OFF MAY??? I'm not saying that I hate every fanfic that has ever done it. I have read some by some people who will probably see this that have handled it very respectfully and actually used it to further the story and I have really enjoyed them. But holy cow it's just the thing to do.
And how it's usually done is the worst part. She will literally get like 2 sentences... The equivalent of, "Oh yeah and also May died." Like give the woman a break holy cow. I just don't understand why people seem to think of her as some kind of a roadblock to the IronDad relationship. IronDad is literally canon and May is still alive. He doesn't actually have to adopt him to make it real.
Again, sometimes it's fine. But of all IronDad fics see May dead within the first five sentences and it's so flipping annoying. And it's often done by people who know nothing about mental illness to give Peter something to be depressed about and then he's over it in two days.
Guys, none of us want to see Peter if he actually lost May. That would literally destroy him. And it kills me when writers use it as like one more thing to make him their inaccurate version of depressed for all of a week.
I am absolute trash for fics that see Peter struggling with that kind of thing, but only if you know how to write it. And how about you actually develop everything he's gone through and the reality of mental illness that doesn't always have a main, explainable "cause" instead of killing May just for the heck of it?
I'm sorry... Again, if you're reading this as my follower and someone I follow and you've killed May in a fic and I've read it, I can almost guarantee that this isn't aimed at you. If you actually think it out and develop it and don't do it just for heck of it and because you think it makes IronDad more legit and actually write it instead of giving her a single sentence and don't see Peter over it within two chapters, we're fine.
I'm just sick of people treating May like she's in the way of IronDad or something because she absolutely is not.
