Prologue:
The man who saved her
The Mayor was walking in the woods, feeling that he had betrayed Fantine, before she died he had promised to find her child, Cosette, and be like a father to her. It was now two years since Fantine's death and he still hadn't found her. Suddenly, he heard a faint voice singing a small song. It coming from deep inside the woods. He followed the voice, and eventually came across a small child with blonde/brown hair and blue eyes.

"Don't be Afraid of me." He said, "where are your mamma and papa?"
"Don't have a mamma or papa. I have ma'am and master, and Éponine, of course."
"What's Your name?" He Asked her.
"Cosette, is my proper name, but Ma'am calls me Slut and scum."
The mayor thought, this can't be Fantine's Cosette because she told me the family she lives with are kind, yet agin she does look rather like Fantine.
"Did your ma'am and master dress you in that?" He Asked, noticing she was wearing nothing but a piece of grey rag.
"Yes, but I like to pretend it's a beautiful ball gown." She answered.
"I see..." he thought for a little bit, then said, "take me to your home."
So Cosette and the mayor walked hand in hand down to a small inn. Before they went inside, Cosette pointed at the toyshop window and said, "that's my doll! Well it's not mine, but I love her so much!" The doll had a small white face. It was wearing a blue dress but, this what got him, the doll had long blonde hair, it reminded him of Cosette's mother's.

"Ma'am?" Cosette called opening the door.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT SLUT?" A booming female's voice came from inside.
"Ma'am this is..." Cosette started.
"...the mayor!" She finished, then screamed "Thenardier! Hello, monsieur. I'm madam  Thenardier, please take a seat." Then a fat man came striding down the stairs.
"How do you do? I'm Thenardier and-"
"I am here to talk about Cosette." He told them.
"What? Her? Why would you wanna talk about her? Let's talk about me. Did you know I saved a generals life at the battle of Waterloo?" Thenardier Asked.
"I am here to take Cosette away from you and to have her live In my care, I promised Fantine I would."
"Well, you see we have provided her with medication. She's been sick more times than you can say 'The great Thenardier' Fantine said that she'd pay for her but no money ever came through. And she's wearing that because she didn't have enough money to pay for clothes."
The mayor had had enough of the Thenardier going on about money that he eventually agreed to pay 1500franks for Cosette. The first thing he did for her was get her new clothes. And then he got her the thing she wanted most in the world, the doll with Fantine's hair. Madam Thenardier was not happy at  Thenardier, she thought he could get more money for her. And from that day on, they where hunting for money from him.

                                                    Chapter 1:
                                                  Ten years later
Cosette always Wondered why her and her papa lived in hiding. It all started when he first adopted her. Until she grew up, they had lived in the convent with the nuns, although he had to be a gardener.
Then when she turned a adult, they lived In a grand house called Rue Plumut, although it was in an unknown part of Paris. Whenever Cosette Asked her papa anything about his past life and why they live in hiding he'd just change the subject.

One cold and dark night Cosette Asked the question she had never dared ask before, "Who was my real mother and what was she like?" Papa (as I will call the mayor in this part) didn't know how to tell Cosette about her mother being a prostitute because it will of Hurt her, once Papa took Cosette into the streets and she hated what Prostitute's did. So he just answered, "Your mother loved and died for you."

The next day, papa took Cosette to the bridge, near by and she gasped at how pretty the view was. "Oh! It's beautiful!" She cried. Then from beneath them came the prisoners of chain gang let by a soldier.
"Who are they, Papa?" Cosette Asked.
"They are prisoners, my child, and have done wrong, but god loves everyone even them." He told her. Cosette didn't listen to the last part and whispered, "I want to go home, papa."
Papa went quite, and was like that for the next couple of days, although Cosette didn't know what she had done wrong.

                                                 Chapter 2:
                                       The man in the garden
When Papa started talking to her, he took Cosette to the gardens of Paris. Cosette loved the beauty of it. It was outstanding! Cosette felt like a real princess, and when they were out, she found her prince. As they walked, Cosette saw a young man with brown hair and dark eyes, to her he looked dashingly handsome. She smiled at him when papa wasn't looking and he smiled back. It was true love at first sight.

Suddenly, an old man came up to papa and said, "Excuse me kind man, but me and me wife has a new child, please we are poor we need money to feed him! Come, I'll take you to him..."
Cosette new He was lying, this was a face she would never forget, it was Thenardier in a disguise. "Papa, don't trust him, he's Thenardier!" Cosette tried to tell him, but he wouldn't have any of it. "This is not Thenardier, my child, this is a poor old man, who I shall help." The man took him and Cosette back to a hotel and up to the top floor. Then he laughed... he was Thenardier. He tried to rob papa by threatening to burn his arm, but papa didn't mind the pain, it was like he was used to it. Jeavet heard what was going on, a young man, the young man was living in the hotel room next to the Thenardier family and told Jeavet at once what was going on. When Jeavet stomped into the room, Papa took Cosette and ran making sure Jeavet didn't see his face.  Jeavet new Thenardier, he remembered that a couple of years ago Thenardier's inn that he owned went bankrupt and had to be shut down. Thenardier was put in prison for the robbery but he was a sneaky man and managed to escape.

                                                    Chapter 3:
                                             The man at the gate.
"You where right, Cosette. I shouldn't of trusted him." Papa told her.
Cosette went outside into the garden to get some fresh air. But when she went outside, the man she fell in love with was standing at the gate. Cosette felt like fainting! He told her that his name was Marius Pontmercy. Cosette and Marius dated in secret for a week before one night they heard a scream from outside the gate.
"What was that?" Asked Cosette.
"It was Éponine, the girl who showed me The way to you." Marius informed her. Then they saw a light from the window in the house.
"PAPA IS AWAKE!" Cosette cried. "We can't let him know you're here!" So Marius snuck away just in time.

When Papa came outside, Cosette told him that she saw three men dressed in dark clothes and she screamed (obviously this was a lie.)
Papa thought it was the chief policeman, Jeavet and ran back inside. Cosette Followed him and when she saw the two candle sticks on the fireplace were gone she knew what it meant, they were moving.

Cosette wrote a letter to her Beloved Marius to explain where she is and why she's not at the house anymore. Just before they left she put it on the gate where they met. But it didn't get to him, because Éponine took it.
