Jack hadn't bothered texting or calling Gabriela since he broke off their relationship. He felt ashamed and mad at himself that he did it. He didn't want his friendship with Gabbie to be different, but for now he couldn't speak to her.

The other boys were out getting a bite to eat, so he crept into Daniel's family apartment. Daniel was the only one who had a real, standup piano, so he decided to use it, rather than a keyboard.

The curly-haired boy pulled out the bench and sat down, positioning his fingers on the keys, resting his foot above the damper pedal. Slowly, note by note, he played "River Flows in You." This song always made him emotional.

Halfway through the piano cover, his fingers slowed down, as tears began to fall from his chocolate brown eyes. He replayed his last moment with Gabbie in his brain, making the tears fall faster and harder. His fingertips barely tapped the keys.

He rested his hands in his lap, unable to continue. A glistening tear landed on a white key. He wiped his face with the sleeves of his gray Champion hoodie. Something about his actions and regrets made him slam his fist on the keys, creating an awful combination of notes.

Giving up, he slid the cover back over the keys and moved the bench back into place. He snuck back into his own apartment and lied down on his plain white comforter, letting the tears fall for another hour.

Fact is, he loved her.
