NINETEEN
Sabre-toothed tiger?
I watched Zane nod.
They don't exist.
Then what are you? Before you calmed down, you... were different. You'd done it before – shifted your fingers into claws. But, when I'd come into the room, you'd had fangs. Proper fangs. They were like tusks that came out of your mouth.
I blinked at him. At the same time I heard the door opened. Looking at the door, I saw how thick it was. It was like a vault door you saw on films for banks. Only then did I see that I was in a room I'd never been in before. There was nothing in here but the bed I was on, the liquids that were being pumped into me, Zane and the chair he was sat on.
What in the hell do they use this room for? I thought as the doctor entered.
"The doctor said that they've had sabre's before," Zane answered.
"Yes, we have," the doctor said, closing himself in the room. "However, the first suffered so much pain that we had to work non-stop until we could create a pain reliever. However, we were too late and the pain had made her mind pass on.
"The second sabre faired much better," the doctor said, walking over, "as the pain reliever that we'd created worked. However, the sabre was still... unable to complete it's change. We think it's because of a recent fight between the sabre and blade, making the blade refuse to help his sabre through the sabre's change. We were only able to come up with that theory because Zane has been with you since the start of your change."
My change?
"Her change?" Zane asked for me.
"We found out – and this is why we keep the sabre's a secret – that sabre's can shape-shift into a sabre-toothed cat. Hence the pain your suffering through. And why your in here." He looked me over. "I suggest that once the pain is over, that you both wait a few hours afterwards down here just in case, before returning to the upper world. I want to make to make sure that you have successfully gone through the change and you are stable both physically and mentally."
Both Zane and I nodded in agreement to the doctor's words.
It was strange to see the doctor in such a serious mood. Before, he'd been the crazy, insane bird doctor, now, he was the doctor. In a way, it just showed how serious my change was.
During the next few hours that past after the doctor had left, I'd found out that it was Friday. And that Archie, Lucas, Ryan, and Taylor would be leaving at midday. Archie and Lucas to the school where the bonded go and Taylor and Ryan were going back to the school they'd been at before coming here because they hadn't found their shields. I didn't like the fact that I wouldn't be able to see them before they left. Or the fact that they'd be separated.
I was watching Zane sleep when the door opened revealing the ocelot. The doctor had come back again an hour after he'd left and while he'd been taking the needles and restraints off of me, he told me why the door was so thick. Because, while I was going through my change, I was in an aggressive mode, and he also said that I seemed to be more aggressive than the other two previous sabre's had been.
"The doctor said that you can return to your room upstairs if you wish," the ocelot said quietly, having seen that Zane was sleeping.
"Thank you," I said as I tugged on Zane's arm that was wrapped around me in it's usual place and called him mentally.
He blinked at me before looking around the room as though looking for any danger, his eyes settling on the nurse.
She said we can go back upstairs.
