THIRTY-THREE
We had been on the road now for three hours and ten minutes while I and Rowan sat in the first vehicle with Taylor, Zane and the leader of the Claw-Cutter's who drove. I and Rowan where in the first vehicle to direct the group that filled several 4x4s in a single line with two goals. For us, it was to find Sierra. For the Claw-Cutter's, it was to kill our kind. It was strange to know that in effect, we were killing our own kind by leading the Claw-Cutter's to their front doors, but with our goal of getting to Sierra, I didn't care.
My cat started to growl as we reached the point that I had jumped out of the van or truck. It was only thanks to Rowan's memories that we reached a abandoned looking church building. It wasn't a church, and had never been, but the architecture was startlingly close.
As we got closer and closer, I heard a ringing. "Does anyone else hear that?"
"Hear what?" the leader of the Claw-Cutter's asked.
I didn't answer for a moment. Then it clicked, it sounded like an alarm, like one for a fire drill, yet this one was more of a dong sound. "They know we're here."
"Already?"
"They must have camera's in the trees," I responded. "And we didn't exactly hide our approach."
She huffed in something close to amusement. "True."
The moment she stopped the car, I jumped out and called on my power to shift. Limbs stretched like a burning fire of pricks piercing my skin. Shaking my head, I bounded my way for the front door, hearing the others follow. Slamming my weight into the door, it groaned. Snarling at the obstacle, I was about to charge again when I felt energy in the air. Laying down so that I wouldn't get hit from friendly fire, energy soared over my head, slamming into the door, creating a space big enough to jump through. And jump indeed, it was too high for a person to climb through with ease.
Running for the hole, I heard Zane try to call me back, but I ignored him, pushing off with my hind-legs, I grabbed the broken hole with my front paws and pulled myself through as another slam hit the door. Those on this side of the door looked startled, giving me the chance to run some over before they started attacking. As one blade's fire hit another, I realised that as long as I kept moving and didn't get hit, they'd hit each other, doing my work for me.
Doing as I'd planned, half the room had gone down by the time the front door gave way, allowing others from my side to see what all the sound of screams of pain, anger, sorrow, and rage had come from. I felt Zane and Rowan touch my mind as I went back over to them. The Claw-Cutters and others that had come with us moved through the room.
"Are you okay?" Zane demanded, checking my fur as Rowan wrapped his arms around my thick neck.
I purred in response to his words. "I'm fine. They only hit each other."
"How the hell did you manage to take so many down?" the leader of the Claw-Cutter's asked in awe as she came over, still prepared to kill anything not on our side.
Zane replied for me with amusement colouring his voice. "Dodgeball."
She stared at me in shock as I grinned as much as a cat could with two tusks out of their mouth.
She shook her head before turning to those who were Claw-Cutter's. "Wes, Jay, I want you on the cat, keep her alive!"
"You mean the cat that almost ate me?" the one called Wes responded, eyeing me wearily.
"At least we know if you fail she won't mind actually eating you," the leader responded making many jaws drop, I grinned. "Now, come on, lets kill this place!"
Moving through the building, we took down any who were in our way. Some of our side did get hurt, but this was war, people were going to get hurt. Of course, the moment I heard Zane hiss in pain, my thoughts changed.
"Zane!"
"I'm fine, it's just a scratch, find Sierra!"
Ignoring his words, I fought through my own to get to Zane's side. Growling as I scented his blood, I saw, while it wasn't much, that a bullet had skimmed a hole in the side of Zane's arm.
"FORGET THEM!" shouted a familiar voice suddenly from above. Making the room pause and turning to look up. "Get the sabre!"
I growled as I recognised him to be the one that suggesting they breed me. "Go get Sierra, he's mine," I told Zane.
"Val..."
"Do it, Zane, get her to safety!"
I didn't hear, but felt his sigh rustle my fur as I bounded away. I fought harder than I ever had before to try and reach him. But then two things happened. The first was the sound of a gun shot. The second was a net glittering in the light as it fell over me.
Moving only managed to make the net tangle my legs tighter and my body smaller. Shifting back to human form, I found that I remained without clothing. Trying to find a way out, I realised that I'd bound myself too much to even attempt to escape the silver. Seeing Tri-Moons run for me, I shifted again, it was tighter than before, but if they wanted to take me, they'd have to struggle with my weight.
At the same time, something heavy landed on my back, surprising a yelping-growl from my mouth. I couldn't twist to turn to see what it was, but as I continued to wonder, I felt a wetness pour from the thing on my back.
"Sire!" was yelled. And as I saw a raven shield, I had a feeling I knew exactly who was on my back. Whose ever gun had aimed and shot, they must have hit their mark and killed the one I had wanted to kill myself. The leader of the Tri-Moons were dead if the sudden agonising cry of pain from my side as his shield pulled the leader off of my back was anything to go by.
I growled when the shield turned to look at me with a glare of hate. "There is a reason Sabre's are extinct, cat," the raven shield spat at me.
I growled again. Another shot sounded and the raven's body jerked. "All you Sabre's do is cause misery for others."
Another shot, this time, however, the raven's body slumped over his blade's as his shield blood mixed with his blade's.
I growled threateningly as I heard someone approach from behind. "It's me," came Taylor's voice. "When their leader was killed, they fled, the Claw-Cutter's are chasing them down."
Huffing a sigh to let him know I heard, I let him move and untangle the net that I was stuck in. after a moment, more bodies came over to help me untangle. The moment I was free, Taylor pointed to where Zane and Rowan were, as though he knew. Then again, maybe he did, he was Rowan's blade after all.
Trotting through the halls, I found Zane and Rowan talking to another girl who looked like a cross between Rowan and Rapunzel with all her hair. Trotting over, Zane touched his mind to mine as Rowan gave me a hug followed by introducing me to Sierra. I had to stifle a growl when her eyes met mine. They weren't dead, but nor where they alive. They looked as though they had seen too much yet too little. She looked like if she could, she would gladly close her eyes and never open them. But at the same time, they held something that told me if she wanted to die by fire, by her gift, she'd have no problem letting a building and those in it burn with her.
That she didn't care for other's lives made me weary about letting her leave this place, yet I allowed Rowan's hope that she would be okay fill me. It might have been a stupid thing to do, but I let it fill me until there wasn't room for anything else, because if I was anything, I was determined to make Zane and Rowan happy, and if that meant teaching Sierra to understand life even though I didn't understand it myself, I would.
Because there was one thing I did know. And that was that I loved Zane as my lover and Rowan as my best friend, I loved them more than I loved myself. And for that love, I would do anything.
