CHAPTER ELEVEN: The Appearance of Dark-Wood

Was I too harsh with him? No, at least he has his parents. If he did not want to talk about it, he should have just told you instead of ignoring you.

Can someone change their mind so quickly? If the emotion he has for someone else is strong enough to overpower what he felt for me.

He looks guilty. They both do and that's the problem. They genuinely look like they have something to hide. Everdeen can only really look at me. Though, there is no glint in her eyes, I still don't fully trust her.

Who can I trust?

Only yourself at this point of time.

A company like mine has far too many enemies, even from within.

I look straight at Diana, still no one has said anything and she just crosses her arms, gives me a nod and stands closer to Trevor.

How to go about a situation like this?
Compliment their attires. Look natural, but unaffected. Do not...above all, do not lose the plot!

"You both look flawless." Everdeen looks as though she wants to gawk in my direction, Maximus frowns, looking at me intently. I found him to be, hesitant, so severely unsure because I'd never been so irritated with the fact the world saw these two outstandingly rushed and influenced people, and they saw a connection in their mists. Something I failed to notice and for that, I'm angry.

Not furious, just angry that I let it go too far.

"I should probably change my tie." Maximus suggests at the exact same time as Everdeen gathers her skirts and stressfully annotates with,

"I should probably change the dress."

I snap myself out of it with a reality check, "No, you both look good."

Maximus snaps his head back to me and the look in his eyes, I can't read the nature of it.

Regret.

Guiltiness.

Or anger.

I don't know.

It mixes and fades, tosses and turns, riddles and rhymes.

He decides to whisper, "It's not up for negotiation. I'm changing. I don't want to match this year."
