Dara's Approval

Prompt: Imagine Dara going to Jisoo's room, and just seeing Jisoo and Jennie intimately wrapped up in each other, giving soft kisses, and she overhears them talking about their future and their children. Jisoo and Jennie don't notice her. Dara just turns to mush.

Oh, the plight of the parent of a teenager.

There was no training, no schooling, no course or informational pamphlet that would prepare Dara Kim for the struggle of raising a teenager.

Unlike her job, it certainly wasn't a science. Medicine was exact, measured, thought out and planned. Medicine could explain itself.

Medicine wouldn't say it was going to be home at midnight, only to arrive three hours later smelling of a bonfire, adorned with several hickeys, and a dreamy smile that screamed "first love".

And medicine certainly would respond to her numerous calls of "Dinner is ready, Jisoo!"

No, that was strictly a teenager's thing. Why, oh why did they never answer? Jisoo and Jennie were a mere staircase away, no doubt fooling around, while Dara worked to prepare dinner for the three of them.

Jisoo usually would come down at her mother's behest, and then groan when she realized there was still about five minutes to go for the food, and she had to set the table.

"Mom." She'd groan. "Seriously? What is this? The 1800's? A restaurant? Why can't we just walk up to the counter and grab some food?"

Dara would always roll her eyes, shove a couple of plates into Jisoo's arms and mutter, "It's the principle of the thing, Jisoo. I like order in my home. I didn't raise a delinquent."

Jisoo would smirk, about to open her mouth to respond with something cheeky, and that would be the end of that.

This time, Dara cut her some slack. After all, she and Jennie had flown back to YG all the way from Polis University just to visit her for spring break. They looked exhausted, and Dara had offered to make Jennie's favorite lasagna dish while the two unwinded.

So this time, the table was already set.

The food was actually ready.

So why on earth weren't they coming down?

Dara threw off her oven mitts as she wiped her brow with a sigh. Instead of an annoyed frown, she found herself smiling. She loved having the feeling of Jisoo being back home. More than that, she loved that Jisoo was not alone, moping about in her bedroom like the lost puppy she resembled in some of her high school years. She was with her best friend, and she was actually smiling again.

Dara just prayed that they weren't doing anything...unsavory, as she climbed the stairs, eager to retrieve them before her culinary masterpiece went cold.

She paused on the steps, biting her lip as she listened for any warning signs that she should grab her keys and flee the scene. However, she found none. It seemed the girls were too tired for any shenanigans, thank god.

"Girls?" Dara called at the foot of the stairs.

No answer.

Instead she was greeted with soft music, unmistakably from Jisoo's ipod. They were listening to the old albums she and Seunghyun adored as teenagers, when they'd hold hands and lay in bed and stare at the ceiling, like lovestruck idiots.

Dara swallowed the lump in her throat, and sent a thought of love up to Seunghyun, wherever he was. The hallowed, aching feeling got better, but it was never fully gone. Dara hoped and wished, with every fiber of her being, that Jisoo would never go through something like that again. And she trusted Jennie a great deal. She'd come to love Jennie like her second daughter.
