The vibrations from my phone have me reaching in my pocket to fish out the device. Checking the caller, I recognize the name and decide to accept it.

"Hey Tyler, I'm on my way to work right now," I say.

"I wasn't calling about that but good to know I guess," he snickers.

I knit my brows together in confusion. "Did you need something?"

"Wanted to ask how your first week has been going," he replies.

"So it is work-related," I note.

"Yeah, I just wasn't trying to find out whether you're coming in today."

"I see. As for your question, why not just wait until I get to the pub and ask me about my week then?" I suggest with a snort.

"Uh, I don't know. I felt like asking now," he says and I can visualize him shrugging his shoulders.

"Well, you'll get a response in about ten minutes when I get there," I state.

"Wait, Nikki--"

I hang up on the blonde and shove my phone back in my pocket, continuing on my way to work.

It's been about a month since I moved to this new town called Gramsby. After my dad died about two months ago, I decided it would be best for me to move closer to my mom so we could support each other during the hard times. I ended up moving into the town next to hers since it was as close as I could get, but the distance is less than before so I don't mind. Even though my parents had divorced years before, my mother was still very hurt by the news of my father's passing. As for me, I love both my parents dearly and my dad's death just left my heart completely shattered. The only thing I really want now is to be with my mom to make sure nothing bad happens to her, too.

The first thing I did after arriving in Gramsby was go job hunting. Back in my hometown, I worked at a pub so I sought some out here hoping to get a job in a familiar environment. Luckily I got hired by one and that was where I met Tyler. He was kind enough to give me his number in case I needed help and, although it was only briefly, we chatted throughout breaks during my training shifts. I had my first real week without any signs of Tyler but I heard from some colleagues he had taken mostly night shifts along with two days off. After sharing my schedule with him, I found that I would have a lot of shifts with him for the next while which certainly eased my nerves. The other coworkers are all nice but I would rather be working alongside someone I'm more familiar with. Plus, it would mean I'd have someone to talk to on occasion in my free time.

The pub isn't too far from my house thankfully, and if I'm really up to it I can easily walk there. There's exceptionally great weather today so I decided to go to work on foot. Besides, as of recently, I haven't gotten any proper exercise because of the move and such.

When I arrive at the pub, I notice Tyler standing behind the bar as well as the fairly empty tables arranged around the room. I was told mornings were never really busy though, so that would make sense. I head to the staff room to put my stuff away and get changed before coming back out onto the floor and make my way over to Tyler.

Tyler is a handsome-looking guy. He has short hair that is longer at the top of his head. He always has it styled back and, while he still looks decent, he uses a bit too much gel. That's what our coworkers say at least, and I kind of have to agree. Forest green eyes and tanned skin give him a sort of outdoorsy look. He's fit and, when I first met him, I honestly thought he worked as a gym trainer, too. However, although Tyler might excel in physical characteristics, his attitude and personality are absolutely horrendous. Because of this reason, I have a love-hate relationship with him.
