Saumiya was the nicest noblewoman that I had met in all my time in the capital. I knew a lot about her because of Aaryan and all the stories he told me of his past, and though he told me she was kind, I wasn't sure if I could believe him.

Afterall, he also told me that his mother would not be a problem... but that seemed to be wrong.

Saumiya, who had demanded that I call her Saumiya as opposed to Lady Saumiya, gave me a tour of their beautiful home, and something I noted was that she was not surrounded by an entourage, and her large estate was not filled with people. It was much different from the palace, though I suppose that shouldn't have been surprising.

However, she was pregnant... and I always imagined that noblewoman would be more cautious when pregnant. I had heard that rich woman barely did any walking when pregnant, aside from short walks in gardens and so forth. This was much different than what us village women were like. Village women often worked as per usual until their water broke. Then, usually the day after giving birth, they would be back to work, the newborn baby strapped to their backs.

But it seemed that Saumiya was not like that.

She walked around, seemingly unconcerned about what others thought, talking loudly and happily as only one handmaiden followed behind the two of us.

"You... are a lot different than the others," I said, before sipping some of the tea that her handmaiden brought for us. Saumiya had completed giving me the tour and we now sat at a table in some sort of lounging room that had large, beautiful windows that opened up to a glorious garden at the back of their home.

"The others?"

I hesitated. Though she had given me no evidence whatsoever of being... unfriendly... I still worried about speaking freely with her.

"Do you mean the palace folk?"

I nodded.

She laughed a silly laugh. It was loud and what others might call 'unlady-like,' and it made me continue to think that though she looked like all the other noblewomen, with long silky hair and a beautiful face, she didn't act like them. "Of course I'm not like the palace folk," she said. "Has Aaryan told you anything about me?"

I felt my cheeks warm a little. "Yes, he has," I said. "It's still surprising though."

She laughed some more. "I was always a little bit of an outsider... it's why Aaryan and I became such close friends."

"Really?"

She nodded. "Aaryan always liked people who were different. I acted too much like a man and Lakshmanan was a bit of a rebel. That's how we all became best friends."

"Aaryan was different too than?" I asked. "From the others? I suppose I don't know the others well enough to tell." And it made sense that someone who was different would be friends with people who are different.
