I was quickly given a warm shower and new clothes and a bed.  I sat on my bed, drying my white hair off and looking around.  For the first time in my life, I felt like I had a family.  I looked at the bat winged man and deer girl that I had met earlier.  They were unsuccessfully trying to get the young ones to go to bed.  I had learned that their names were Hinda and Blade.  I smiled and walked over to them.  They looked at me in surprise and I smiled.  I knelt down and looked at the children.

“Come on guys.  You have to listen to Hinda and Blade.  They know what’s best for you,” I said softly.

“But we don’t wanna go to sleep now,” complained a scaly little boy.  I smiled.

“If you be good and go to sleep now, I promise to play with you guys all day tomorrow,” I said.

         “Promise?” they all asked together.

“I promise,” I replied.  I stood up and they ran to their beds and climbed in.

“How’d you do that?” asked Hinda.

“Yeah.  It usually takes us hours,” laughed Blade.

“I’ve always been good with kids,” I replied.  I bid them goodnight and walked to my bed.  Ace was sitting there on the edge of my bed.  I went and sat down beside him.  He was looking out at all the people gathered here with a serious and far off look.  For once, a smile could not be seen on his face.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.  He sighed and looked at me seriously.

“I need to help these people.  They are being hated because of the lies that the government is feeding regular people,” he said clenching his fists.  I was shocked to see this part of Ace, the serious and mad Ace.  I had known this strange boy for just one night, but I couldn’t help but be drawn to him, like an invisible force was pushing us together.  I looked at him sadly.  I had no idea what to say.  We sat just like that, side-by-side, for a while, letting the deafening silence wash over us.  I could see in Ace’s furrowed brow that he was thinking very hard about something.  He suddenly got up, murmured a quick good night and retired into the back room.  I sat there staring at his door for a little longer before I lay down and fell asleep.  During the following week I grew accustomed to the Resistance and helped out with daily tasks.  I was just beginning to feel happy again.  But ever since the day we met, I had not been able to talk with Ace.  I would see him once in a while darting in and out of headquarters, but that was all.  I was beginning to miss him.

I was awoken by someone shaking me.  I slowly opened my eyes and found Ace looking at me excitedly.

“Wake up!  There’s something I wanna show you!” he whispered urgently.  I got up and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes.  I changed into a long sleeved shirt that said I ♥ NY and jeans.  I walked outside and found Ace waiting for me.

“Ready?” he asked mischievously.  I nodded and he quickly grabbed me around the waist with one arm.

“What are you doing?” I gasped.

“It’ll take too long to walk,” he replied.

“What are you talking about?” I asked confused now.
