Ace’s condition was slowly improving and by the end of the month, he was able to get up and perform daily tasks.  He regained his happy demeanor and having him back around seemed to lift everyone’s mood.  Ace still had to sit down and rest after performing a task like washing dishes or something, but nobody minded.

“How’s it going?” he asked me one day as I was passing him on his recliner chair.

“It looks great, it’s really coming together,” I replied smiling brightly.  Today we were celebrating Ace’s recovery as well as Artie’s birthday.

“Is that so,” Ace said slowly standing up.

“What are you doing?” I asked worried.  He sighed.

“I’m just going to help a bit,” he said irritated.

“Stop worrying about me Hesper.  I’m fine, if I get tired I’ll sit back down I swear,” he said reassuring me.  I raised one eyebrow doubtfully and Ace pouted his lip and gave me a puppy dog stare.  I sighed in defeat.

“Just be careful okay.  Your still not fully healed,” I said playfully patting the lump of bandages hidden under his shirt.  He grinned in triumph.

“Okay!” he said happily.  He walked over to the dining area as quickly as he could.  I couldn’t help but smile at his childish side.  Within an hour with everybody’s help we had finished up all the preparations for the party.  Everyone had fun mingling and eating the delicious food.  Ace also seemed to be doing fine.  As the night went on, Hinda and Blade brought out a giant birthday cake that said ‘Happy Birthday Artie!’ in big green letters.  Mace carefully placed four candles on to represent twenty-two and lit them.  Hinda cleared her throat and began talking to everyone.

“Okay we’re gonna sing happy birthday to the big birthday boy,” Hinda joked lightly elbowing Artie.

“On the count of three everyone, one two three,” we began singing very loud and off tune.  By the time we were finished, Artie was blushing bright red and laughing.

“Aww thanks you guys!” he said picking up and hugging the two people closes to him, which happened to be Meo and Mace.

“Let go of me you big lummox!  I get it!” Meo yelled starting to blush.  Mace stared off blankly and then while everyone was laughing at Meo, I noticed him smile.  I grinned happily and then yelled,

“Now let’s give a cheer for Ace’s recovery.”  Everyone faced Ace who was standing off by the side leaning against the counter.  Everyone began cheering and Ace turned away and blocked his face with his hand, but I could still see blush rising to his face.  We all quieted down and the adults began serving the cake first to the children, then to themselves.  I went and leaned against a pillar out of the way and watched my furry, white tail sway back and forth blankly.  I heard someone to my right and turned my head to find Ace grinning at me with two plates of cake.

“Want some?” he offered.  I took a plate and dug into the fluffy, golden cake.  I threw a piece into my mouth and moaned in satisfaction.  Ace chuckled next to me.  I looked at him raising my eyebrow in question.

“I didn’t expect you to like sweets so much,” he continued to laugh.

“Hey I like normal things too!” I yelled my mouth still full of cake.
