•Devyn's POV•
As I pull up into the driveway after work, I notice the lights inside are on and his car is here. My heart races as I open the door to see what he wants tonight, and why he's home so early.
I walk into the house, and the first thing he yells is "WHY ARE YOU HOME SO LATE?" I start to tremble from the tone in his voice. I cower slightly away as he takes more steps closer to me. "I asked you a question. You better answer me bitch." He says in somewhat a calmer manner than before.
'Come on Devyn, you can't take anymore shit from this guy. Just tell him and text Conner, he'll help.' With a deep breath I lift my head up and meet Donny's dark eyes as he looms over me. I straighten my back and prepare myself for my next actions. "I'm leaving. I already have a bag packed. I'm not going to take this anymore. Bye dick." I say and push through his arms and he grabs onto my arm, pulling me back.
He yanks me back, causing me to swing around. This give me the perfect opportunity to punch him in the jaw. After the hit lands, he punches me in the face, hard. The hit is hard enough to knock me to the ground. I crawl away from Donny, my back hitting the door. I quickly stand up and shut the door, running out to my black car. I see Donny open the front door and start walking out to the car. I fumble with my keys before quickly starting the car and speeding away.
I don't care about the speed limit at the moment. I look in the rear view mirror, seeing Donny in the middle of the road. I speed away, turning down a random street. I grab my phone and use Google Maps to find a hotel in this town that's as far away from that house.
I eventually pull into the driveway, my headlights beaming in the darkness of the night. I look out the window and up at the moon, checking my phone. It's now 11:03 at night. I turn one of the lights on in the car and pull down the visor to look in the mirror. A huge bruise was starting to turn purple on my cheek, ranging up near my forehead. I softly touch it, looking into my bag to see if I packed any makeup, I sigh in defeat as I didn't pack any.
I need to get out of here, so I text my older brother, Connor.
(D-Devyn, C-Connor; this is how it will be for text messages)
D- Um, hey I have an issue... and I need some help.
I wait a few minutes for him to answer, he may have fallen asleep.
Right as I'm about to grab my bags and spend a bunch of money to stay in a hotel room, I get a text back.
C- Hey, what's up. You ok sis?
I sigh and pick up my phone to answer it.
D- No not really... Donny kinda fucked up and he lashed out again. I kinda need a place to live now. I packed a bag and left on the spot. Do you know of any good places?
C- Seriously? I knew you shoulda left a long time ago. But you can stay with me. I'll buy the ticket, you can fly out tonight if I can find a ticket in time.
My heart swells from my brother. He's always taken care of me. About a year ago, Donny started acting like this, I'm not sure what happened exactly. I walked through the door from work and he just started yelling and hitting. I couldn't do anything because I was just starting out at work, and Connor was getting his life together. I wasn't about to ruin his work just because of a few punches. Now, it's different, we are both on our feet and now Connor can help me, though I don't want him to stop his life for little ole me.
D- You don't have to do that for me bro. Just any recommendations will do.
C- No, I won't allow that. I just bought your ticket for midnight. Hope you don't mind red-eye flights.
D- Thanks Connor. I really appreciate it. Once I have money to buy a house I'll move out and figure stuff out.
C- Anything for you, Dev. See you in a few hours.
I turn my phone off and buckle my seatbelt across my chest, turning off the overhead light. I start the car again, looking behind me to back out of the packing space. I start to race to the airport.
I find a spot to leave the car and start running to the airport. Running in, I find a kiosk to print the ticket, I print it and head straight to security. This is where most of my time will be spent. The line is surprisingly not too long, then again, it's almost midnight. I hurry through, taking off my shoes and going through the metal detector.
After I get through, I put my shoes back on and run to my gate.
I get to my gate just in time to board the plane. Walking up to the flight attendants, I pant and show them my ticket and board the plane. I walk down the long jet walk (I have no idea what it's called. Whatever connect the plane to the building) and walk onto the plane. I find my seat and luckily I'm not in the middle of two people, I'm in the aisle seat. I place my bag underneath the seat in front of me and sit back, buckling the seatbelt. I get a few weird looks from the bruise on my face, I just shake my head and ignore them.
The plane soon takes off and we're in flight. After I hear the pilot tell us big electronics can be turned on, I close my eyes and fall asleep. I guess I will wake up when I land.
