Devyn's POV•
I follow Connor to one of the buildings and he unlocks the door, walking in and holding it open for me. As I walk into the building, my head slowly turns, taking in all of the scenery. I continue to slowly walk in and keep my eyes scanning everything, the walls and doors, along with other smaller details all have a common theme. Everything is in a blue-ish hue.
Connor walks next to me, then going straight into a room that's on the first level. I cock my head slightly to the side, curiously following him into the room. "This is my office." He flicks on the light and plops down in a desk chair. He then reaches onto his desk, turning his back to the door to face it, and turns on his computer. I can see his home screen, it's a picture of us from when we were younger- from before he left to move out here.
I continue to look around, "What is this place?" Curiosity laces my voice as I ask Connor. He keeps his back to the door as he answers, not even looking up.
"This is Blue Base. Each of the buildings are a colored base. Like there's Orange Base. It's just the building next to here." He gives a soft chuckle, keeping his eyes on his computer. I slowly walk into his office and plop down on the other office chair that sat next to the desk. I pushed the ground with my toes, softly spinning the chair around, letting me look around the room.
I hear a click and look at Connor, noticing he had turned off his computer. I raise my eyebrows, waiting for what he's going to say. He stands up and nods his head towards the door, "Let's go explore the rest of the base, and I can even show you Orange Base if you wanted." He shrugs as he starts walking up the stairs, me following a few steps behind him.
My voice slightly echoes when I answer back, as we continue going up the staircase. "Sure. You can show me whatever you want. I'd like to see it all but it's understandable if you can't." Once we get to the top, my eyes widen slightly. It's so big and "roomy". I look around and see a couch in the middle of the main room, with rooms branching off. I'm guessing those are more offices for the employees.
I follow Connor back downstairs, "Now this, this is one of my favorite places to go in this whole building." He walks into a room that's full of Nerf guns. My eyes trace the walls, examining every toy weapon hanging up. Then I look on one of the walls, there's a mirror with blue lights lined around it. I look around in amazement as I take it all in. "But wait, there's more." Connor quickly takes off into another direction, it looks like another main hall/room. There's lots of giant barriers, and other miscellaneous objects to hide behind. Along with multiple couches and lots of camouflage coverings.
"What. Is. This?" I look around in amazement, my inner child coming out. My jaw drops as I looks around, my eyes continuing to trace the walls and floor. I hear the door click, signalling someone unlocked it to come in. I tune that out and walk over to one of the camouflage covered barriers and run my fingertips over the top.
I then hear Connor talking to a different man, it's an unfamiliar voice. My head perks up slightly, trying to decipher what they are talking about. I'm almost caught when I hear two pairs of footsteps coming my way and try to act "normal". I put my hand back on the barrier. I then feel Connor's hand softly lay on my shoulder.
When I turn around, I'm met with two pairs of blue eyes, other than mine. The other guy has darker hair. Brown, almost black, his "facial hair" is just a slight scruff on his face. He has a goofy smile when he laughs awkwardly. Realizing I've been staring, I quickly look at the floor. My eyes then climb up my own legs and onto my arms, looking at where the bruises used to lay on my arms.
My heart starts beating faster, remembering the marks on my face. I start to get self conscious, but I don't show it in any way. The beating gets loud enough that it starts ringing in my ears and I can't hear what the guys are saying.
Suddenly I'm pulled away from my miniature panic attack with both of the guys looking at me expectantly. I just look up in confusion, also laced with fear and worry, but I try and mask it as much as I can. I give a soft cough and laugh, shrugging off the fear. My eyebrows raise together, "Can you repeat what you said, my mind was somewhere else." I smile as they both look at each other and the unfamiliar guy holds out his hand, I'm guess for me to shake.
"I'm Paul. I work with Connor. And you are?" He smiles and keeps his hand out.
My hand slowly reaches out and takes a soft hold of his hand, shaking it. "I am Conner's sister, Devyn." I give a fake smile, trying to act happy. Paul smiles at me and lets go of my hand, his arm dropping softly to his side. I glance at Connor, unsure of what we will be doing next.
"Well, we are done with the basic tour of the base. So now Paul and I have some work we actually need to do." Connor finally breaks the silence. I nod, waiting for him to walk back towards his office. Connor just stares back at me, as if waiting for me to walk off.
"Connor, I have no clue what I'm doing so I don't know where to go." I admit while my hand runs up my arm. He sighs and facepalms himself.
"Oh my gosh, I'm stupid. Sorry, you can come chill with me today just to see what it's like, kay?" I nod in response and follow Connor back to his office. I softly smile to myself, realizing that I've made an acquaintance today.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
