Part 5

Devyn's POV
I take a seat in a chair next to Connor's, pulling out my phone and scrolling through social media. While he works, I keep my eyes down on my screen. I periodically hear the doors opening and closing, signaling more of Connor's friends and coworkers are coming in.
Every now and then I peek up away from my phone, seeing people continue filling the building. Then I hear a louder voice. Just from his voice I can tell he's more of a confident guy. "Good morning everybodyyy!" I bring my eyes away from my phone, trying to sneakily get a peek of this guy. Just when my eyes are away from the screen, a blonde guy with a blonde beard leans in the doorway, relaxing his shoulder on the side of the frame. "Sup Con man. Sup new person." He nods towards me, making me raise my eyebrows slightly in confusion.
"Hey Tan man," Connor spins his chair around so he's facing this 'Tan man' in the door, "this is my little sis, Devyn. Devyn, this is Tanner."
I smile and nod slightly, my eyes leaving his face and gluing to my phone again.
"Sweet. Gonna be cool to have a new dude around. We'll see ya around." He waves and walks out of the base, I'm guessing into the one where his office is. I shake my head softly and Connor makes me get up from where I was sitting. I roll my eyes and get up, staring at him.
"What do you want?" I ask, my voice laced with attitude.
"Cmon, we're gonna go explore the bases. Meet some new people, yknow, the norm." He walks out of his office, I quickly chase after him. I have to speed walk to keep up with him.
"You could also slow down big guy," I say, slightly out of breath. I am definitely NOT an athlete.
"Nope, you have to meet the big guy. The boss of everyone here." Connor stops in front of a door and next to the door, there's a window but the blinds are shut so I can't look in. I stand next to my brother and start awkwardly rubbing my hand up and down my arm, glancing around the small space with couches and a small coffee table in the middle. Connor knocks as I start walking over to the couch. "Don't sit down, we're about to talk to Matthias." I look between in and the couch, but then against what he told me to do, I sit down. I smirk as I lean back, Connor just rolls his eyes and leans against the wall.
I stare at a random wall, losing myself in a trance not thinking about anything in particular. I somewhat hear a door open, but pay no mind to it. What gets my attention is Connor walking over and snapping in my ear and I almost punch him. Connor laughs briefly and then looks back at the door, where a grown man with brown hair and a beard the same color.
The guy nods his head toward the room, I'm guessing his office. I take a deep breath and stand up and smile weakly. I follow Connor into the room and the man gestures for me to shut the door, I nod and do as he wants. Connor sits on the couch and I glance around and see a chair in front of his desk and sit in the chair. The man looks at Connor, then back to me. He holds his hand out to me and i hesitantly take it.
"Hello, I'm Matthias," he looks at me with a blank face. My heart speeds up, starting to get anxious and nervous.
"H-hi. I'm Devyn." I look away from Matthias, my eyes glued to my lap.
"I know, Connor has told me a lot about you, Devyn." Matthias starts looking through paperwork. I shoot an icy glare at Connor, who puts his hands up in defence.
