What's This? (Paul Kennedy)

Part 8

Connor's POV*
When I pull into the driveway, I look over at my sister, who seems to almost be in a daze at this point. She's been like this since we left work.
"Devyn? What's on your mind, sis? Everything go okay at work? Nobody was mean, were they?" I start basically interrogating her, making sure nothing bad happened at work. I know we act like we hate each other, but I truly love my sister. I will back her up any day of the week, but will also beat her up any day of the week.
She shakes her head and comes out of her daze, looking at me, "It's nothing Connor, today went really well for me, and I think I'll actually fit in there." She beams and a smile goes from one ear to another, showing she's genuinely happy. I smile, knowing what happened between her and her ex not too long ago. I'm glad that she's starting to feel better. I smile and walk over and softly hug her, sighing happily, knowing my sister is doing okay. "I think I should probably go get some dinner, wanna come?"
I nod, "Hey, how about we invite some of the guys from work? You could make some more friends?" I offer while pulling out my phone to text the group chat. Devyn shrugs and goes to take off her makeup and other girl stuff.
In the group chat:
Me: hey bois, my sis and I are headed out for dinner, anyone down?
Matt: i can't tonight, Amanda wants to have a family dinner tonight
Tan man: I can't make it. I'm sorry bro
Paul: I'm free tonight, where are we going?
Me: we're still figuring it out, come to my place and we can head out together?
Paul: sounds good 👍
When Devyn comes back in leggings and a baggy shirt, I let her know that Paul will be hanging with us.
Devyn's POV*
When I hear Paul is coming with us, I can feel my body get hot and the sound of my heart beat fill my ears, blocking out all other sounds. I nod and head to my room.
"Calm down, Devyn, it's not like you're in love with this man. He's just cute and this is a little school boy crush." I look in my mini mirror and see my face flushed. 'Why can't you just act natural?' I internally yell at myself.
I quickly look around and find some concealer and mascara so I don't look like a monster. Once I get finished and make my face look natural, but the decent type of natural. I walk out in comfy clothes and sit on the couch with my phone in hand. I focus on my phone while my mind drifts off to Paul and how cute he is. 'I swear it's just a crush,' I think to myself as my heart unexpectedly starts to pound. Then, I hear a knocking on the door,
"Hey, Dev, can you get that?" Connor yells to me while he's putting his work stuff away. I softly sigh and walk towards the door, and without looking through the peephole, open the door. I am suddenly face to face with Paul, a slight smile on his face, and one instantly forms on my face, too. We stand there for a minute, just staring at each other. When I feel my cheeks start to heat up, I quickly move and let Paul in.
"Make yourself at home." I smile and quickly walk to my room.
'Fuck, why are you so stupid, Devyn? Why can't you just act normal around a semi cute boy?' I softly smack myself in the head as I try to find where I last set my phone.
"Looking for this?" I turn around to see Paul holding my phone, dangling it behind me and above my head. I look up and glare at him -he's using my short height against me, like I get it. 5' is short. "You gotta jump to get it," a smirk rests on his cute face. With a deep sigh, I start jumping, and after many failed attempts, I sit on the couch with my arms folded.
"You know I'm short! That's not fair." I huff in frustration.
"Hey, it's not my fault I was blessed with height." Paul chuckles softly and sits next to me, finally handing over my phone. I snatch it from his hands and we sit in awkward silence. My eyes dance around the room, avoiding him at all costs.
"Hey guys, it sure is quiet in here." Connor finally rescues us from the awkwardness that had already filled the room. My hand quickly rubs the back of my neck, fidgeting. I noticed my glasses covered in dust and smudges, so I take them off and use my shirt to clean them and as I'm rubbing them, Paul and I make eye contact, whilst I'm squinting. I think I see him smile and blush a little bit, but I'm not sure cause I don't have my glasses on.
Connor's POV*
I throw on my jacket and get my wallet and keys and when I look up, I see my little sister cleaning her glasses and Paul softly staring at her. I keep watching him and when they make eye contact, I see them BOTH blush. I cock my head slightly to the right and shake my head, continuing on with my life. I do wonder if something is going on between them... it COULD be nothing, but what if it isn't?
I just lead the two to my car, hopping into the driver's seat. Paul had called shotgun while we were inside, so he sits next to me while Dev's in the backseat. My eyes bounce between the rear view mirror and the road, keeping an eye in Devyn, who seems to be watching Paul. I shake my head as I break the silence, "What does everyone want to eat?"
"I'm cool with anything, I'm not too picky." Paul spoke up, looking over at me.
Looking in the rear view mirror at Devyn, we make eye contact and she answers about the same response as Paul. Being the only decisive one in the car, I decide to go to Pizza Hut, where we can sit down and just chill.
I pull into the parking lot of the restaurant and park the car. "Voila, since I'm the only one who can actually make up my mind, this is what I choose and y'all can deal with it." The two just look at me and shrug, basically replying 'whatever, loser,' to me. We get out and go inside to get a seat, Devyn sitting next to me and with Paul across from us. We each grab a menu and begin looking through them, I just want a simple pizza, man.
Paul's POV*
I keep my menu somewhat close to my face as my eyes slightly peek up over my menu at Devyn. I can feel my cheeks heat up slightly and my eyes dart over to Connor, who is staring me down. My heart immediately drops to my stomach as I receive a slight glare from him. I smile innocently and look back at the menu, gulping softly to myself.
