madison had been afraid of returning to hawkins. sure, the lab may have been closed down, but that town was where she had been sent after being stolen from her family at age 7. she hadn't gotten much chance to remember her family, but dr brenner certainly was of no relation to her. madison had been through all kinds of torture and manipulation while she was there, and even the thought of being in that town scared her.

but it was hard for madison to leave her new friends behind. eleven, another young girl from the lab, mike, the leader of the party, lucas, the brave one with the high pitched screams, dustin, the curly haired logical one, and will. madison hadn't known him well until after a year of being free from the lab, but the small time she had spent with him meant everything to her.

will had been sucked into the upside down, an alternate dimesion that eleven had visited in her mind palace. madison and eleven had used their powers to destroy the demogorgon, but eleven used more of hers for it. there wasn't much a shapeshifter could do when it came to destroying an evil monster. madison did all that she could, but, in the end, eleven was sent to the upside down in the act of killing the demogorgon. will returned to hawkins, and madison immediately began to talk to him about his experiences. will looked at her in a way that made madison feel special, like she belonged.

madison had stayed with hopper and eleven for two years, sneaking out of the house to go see will. eleven had taken madison with her to chicago to go find their lost sister, kali teaching them how to channel their powers. both girls had then decided that they didn't want to live that life and that they missed their home and their friends. the two got back to hawkins just in time, closing the gate and getting rid of the monsters for good. madison was worried to find out that will was currently being possessed by a monster from the upside down, and hugged the boy tightly as soon as he was okay.

but the evil wasn't completely rid of, and madison had teamed up with joyce and hopper, who had gone to the lab to see why joyce's magnets were falling off her fridge. madison ended up finding a russian doctor named alexei and a strange man named murray. murray, as she had been told, helped write an article closing the lab down, so madison had a lot to thank the man for. joyce, worried about the kids, rushed home to check the fun fair. when the group couldn't find them, madison suggested heading towards the mall in case they went shopping.

so here madison was, standing outside of the starcourt mall. hearing what sounded like screaming inside, madison turned into a wolf, black tail swishing in anticipation as she crept through the doors that hopper opened for her. eleven was laying on the ground, her leg bloody, and dustin and mike were at each of her sides. madison quickly recognized her other friends; lucas, dustin, steve, max, will, and some girl wearing a similar outfit to steve's. madison's immediate instinct was the rush to eleven, but she didn't know if whatever had given her the bite was still there. madison walked over to the group, standing near joyce protectively. when no sounds could be heard, madison shifted back into herself, shaking her arms off a bit.

the group infront of her gasped, rushing towards their friend. madison chuckled as she melted into the grouphug, asking eleven if she was okay, getting a nod and a smile in response. madison then turned to will, smiling a little. "hey, byers." she spoke, watching his smile get bigger.

"hey, weirdo." will responded lovingly, pulling madison into his arms. "i missed you, maddie." he smiled, nose pressed into her hair. "like, a lot." madison stepped back to look into his eyes. "i mean, of course i missed you, i mean, you're one of my best friends but the thing is i don't want you to be my best friend because i really like you." will finally stopped talking, searching madison's eyes for any clues to her feelings.

"i really like you, too." madison smiled, pressing her lips to his before melting into his touch.
