requested by my homie dylanob24_ 'henderson!reader during the scene on the train tracks with dustin and steve and reader gives dustin girl advice. steve then says that isn't hoe he got the reader, and that it's therefore crappy advice and they have a little fight about it.' thank you for the request, i love this scene and i love you and i hope you enjoy this!

"but how do i let her know i like her without seeming like a creep?" dustin was asking, tossing meat to the side of the track. y/n was a bit sidetracked considering the fact that her brother had captured a baby demogorgon and it had eaten her cat, forcing them to hunt the creature down. y/n's boyfriend, steve harrington, showed up to the henderson residence wearing his grey jacket and jeans, planning to go on a date with his girlfriend. the poor boy even had a cluster of roses, planning to use the l word for the first time that night.

however, steve's plans with y/n went down the drain when she ran outside, grabbing his hand and quickly catching him up on the fact that there was a baby demogorgon in her storm cellar. steve was, needless to say, confused but also willing to help. he also conveniently had his classic nail bat in his car, fetching it to help fight "dart", as dustin had named him. steve couldn't find dart, but did see a dart sized hole in the wall. assuming the worst, the group gathered buckets of meat and headed to place them like breadcrumbs on the ground. their path led to the local junkyard, where they would hopefully be able to trap dart and fight him before he killed something other than just mews.

dustin had apparently found his first love in the form of the new girl, max, from california. y/n supported dustin, so she decided to take it upon herself to give him advice. "well, she's not going to think you're a creep for liking her." the girl spoke, moving a piece of hair behind her ear. "you just have to tell her honestly, and just let her know how you feel. even if she doesn't feel the same way, she'll appreciate your honesty." steve shot her a confused look, but tossed a piece of meat onto the ground. "seriously, girls your age eat that up." y/n ruffled dustin's cap, smiling down at her brother who was still confused about girls.

"so, i tell her i like her. and i tell her that she's the coolest girl i've ever met and that i think we have a lot in common and that i think she's gorgeous." dustin spoke mostly to himself, looking to y/n to make sure he was doing well so far. he then stopped, shaking his head. "i don't know, i guess i thought max would think dart was cool." the boy sadly tossed a piece of meat to the side, watching it roll down the tracks.

steve's brows furrowed and he looked over at dustin. "why would a girl like some nasty slug anyway?"

"an interdimensional slug?" the younger boy corrected. "because it's awesome."

the older boy shook his head, his eyes rolling a little. "well, even if she thought it was cool, which she didn't, i just- i don't know, i just feel like you're trying too hard." steve's girlfriend sent him a quizzical look, and steve shrugged.

"well, not everyone can have your perfect hair, alright?" dustin spoke somewhat sadly, and his sister was about to start a speech on why her brother's hair was just as good as steve's.

"it's not all about the hair, man." steve said, and y/n was about to actually agree with him. "forget about what n/n said about all the mushy stuff. the key with girls is just acting like you don't care. that's how i got her, anyway."

y/n's jaw dropped and she lightly slapped steve on the shoulder, earning dustin's attention. "don't listen to him, dustin. he DEFINITELY did NOT get me from acting like he didn't care." dustin, obviously trusing the opinion of a girl, nodded in understanding. "again, just be yourself. don't act like you don't care, she'll just think your an asshole. if you act like you don't care, she will think that you actually don't care, even though you do." the younger boy nodded again, almost wishing he could take notes.

steve, not wanting dustin to listen to his sister, chimed in (with a haven't you people ever heard of-). "but, if you act like you care too much, she might think you're a creep." dustin's eyes got wide, and steve simply nodded. the older henderson sibling rolled her eyes, not believing what was happening. "you can act like you care, but if you act like you care too much then you'll seem clingy."

"steve, if you believe all of this information, then how do you think i fell for you?" y/n asked, hands on her hips. steve looked over at her, giving her a look that suggested the answer was obvious.

"well, first of all, my hair really is eye-catching. second of all, i pretended to not be interested and you played along. then, when i'd see you at parties, we'd talk. and then i told you about when nancy and i broke up and how i felt about you but that i was too afraid to tell you. you said you appreciated my honesty and then we ki- oh my gosh you really do like honesty." steve finished with a gasp, looking over at y/n who simply nodded.

y/n turned to dustin, tossing a piece of meat on the ground. "and, another thing. the girl is always right. exhibit a." steve rolled his eyes, playfully nudging his girlfriend with a chuckle. she giggled and reached out for his hand, taking the large one into her own.
