————— • —————Jihyo rustled awake. It was Sunday, but it felt like a Saturday. Being mindful of Sana right next to her, she quietly moved out of the bed to look outside. If anything, the flooding had gotten worse; the water level had risen. It didn't even sound like it rained the night before, nor did it look like it but the streets say different. As she was looking, she became conscious of the light footsteps coming from behind her. Next to Jihyo stood her parter with her messy blonde hair looking out the window with a look of disbelief on her face.
"Crazy, huh?" Jihyo said, breaking the silence between them. Sana nodded before moving closer to the window to look up and down the streets. "Mother Nature's just going at it these days," Jihyo stated as she walked away to shower and wash up. Sana hoped the weather cleared up soon because she was also worried about her friends and how they were. The connection was down but thankfully there was internet and electricity, which didn't make sense but neither of them complained.
After the two of them washed up and ate breakfast, they both wanted to finish the project that they were almost done with. For some reason, it shocked Jihyo that Sana actually wanted to do work, something she didn't really do well in. As they finished up their project, Sana looked at it in awe, mentally applauding herself for the work she and her partner did. They soon sat in utter silence as they heard the rain start again. Jihyo could hear Sana sigh in agony as the pouring started once more. It was dark outside, making it seem like it could be night but it was only lunch. The only light that was there was the dim lights of the kitchen and some in the living room.
A notification popped up from Sana's phone; it was from the school. "Hey, school's cancelled this whole week. The water got so high that it seeped into the classes upstairs, soaking things below it." Jihyo nodded, kind of upset that there was no school but, again, neither of them complained.
Jihyo suddenly got up, grabbing Sana's hand and went into the living room. As the blonde sat down, she left to go to another room, leaving Sana alone for a while. She came back holding a deck of cards: UNO. "We're gonna play UNO?" Sana questioned, laughing after she asked as Jihyo took a seat on the carpeted floor. "What? Do you have anything else in mind?" Sana smiled and shook her head. "No, it's just I'm pretty good at this."
"We'll see."
She emptied the pack onto the floor and dealt out 8 cards each. They played, giving each other poker face stares as they put down a card. "UNO~," Sana said, smiling as she held the card to her chest so Jihyo couldn't cheat. "What?! No way," Jihyo retorted in disbelief as she drew from the deck. Her lips curved into a smile as she threw her card into the deck. "Draw four cards!"
"Are you for real?!" Sana gasped, grunting as she took her four cards. They played their cards with force. Jihyo smiled and set down her card in the pile.
"UNO." She looked up at Sana, who was distraught at what happened. She put down her card with Jihyo also throwing down her last card after her. "I win! Who's the best now, huh?" she exclaimed, getting up and taunting her partner. "It was only luck, Miss Park," Sana said, trying to defend herself. "Well 'Miss Park' me all you want, I beat you at UNO!"
All Sana could do was laugh at how much fun Jihyo was having. She really wasn't as bad as she thought she was all these years.
It was time for dinner, but because of the dull weather, neither of them felt like cooking. Jihyo threw some packets of ramen into a pot and added the spices that came with it. They sat and slurped their noodles, the sound of rain still coming down onto the roof making the only noise in the house. After the two of them finished and put their bowls in the dishwasher, she was about to head to bed when Sana grabbed her arm. She turned and was met with the cutest eyes.
"Could we, um, watch a movie again? Please?" she asked hesitantly. To her surprise, Jihyo nodded. The latter smiled delightedly and took her hand, gently pulling her to the couch. Why was she acting like this? The younger was mildly confused as to why the person that hated her was suddenly so clingy to her. Her thoughts were cut off as she dropped to the couch with Sana next to her, putting on a romantic comedy movie that was sure to drag her thoughts away.
Around halfway through the movie, she felt the couch shift as the blonde moved closer to her. Her thoughts went wild as a weight was positioned on her lap. Unconsciously, her hand ran through her short, jet-black hair before she moved her fingers through Sana's hair. It was silky and straight, the strands moving around her fingers so smoothly. Jihyo oddly couldn't get enough of it.
"Jihyo?" a quiet voice said, snapping her out of her thoughts once again. "Yes?" she responded as Sana got up from her lap. "Jihyo?"
"Yeah?" the younger responded as she turned her head to lock eyes with Sana. The latter cupped Jihyo's face with one of her hands. At the same time, their senses had heightened as movie seemed to begin playing louder. Neither of them dared to break eye contact.
"Sawyer, do you really believe in us?"
"Of course! Why— why wouldn't I?"
"You played me! Like you play your goddamn Nintendo Switch shit!"
"Hey! I'll have you know that-" A kissing noise was made as the girls kept eye contact while still being ultimately aware of what was happening around them.
"Please, Sawyer, play me again like your goddamn Nintendo Switch..."
Jihyo felt Sana rest her forehead on hers as she gulped immensely under her. She leaned in, feeling her hot breath against her lips as she got closer. "Sana.."
She kissed her. Her lips were soft and warm, exactly like marshmallows over a bonfire. They moved against hers as if she was trying to memorize them. Jihyo did what she least expected she would do for herself.
She kissed back.
It was slow, but intimate. Their mouths moved against the others in utter harmony as Sana closed in on Jihyo. She took her hand away from her cheek and wrapped them both around her waist, pulling her closer to her. Jihyo did the same, snaking her arms around the blonde's neck.
Both girls were so lost in each other that they didn't realize how long they've been like that until Jihyo pulled away, breathing desperately for air.
Sana went wide-eyed as she backed away from the girl in surprise. She got up and left the room so fast that all Jihyo could do was watch her scurry off into her room. She held her fingers to her temples, trying to collect herself. She couldn't think nor could she process what just happened. The way her lips were pressed into hers was so mesmerizing that she would, oddly, do it again. Jihyo had no reason to think this way. She decided to go to bed and try to clear her mind.
When she got to her room, she could see the silhouette of the girl she just kissed laying in the bed, her back facing her.
After some time, Sana felt the bed move as Jihyo made her way to put herself under the covers. The silence between them was long, leaving both of them eager to say something to break the tension.
"It's ok," Jihyo said after some time. "We can forget about it. It... it never happened. End of story." she finished before moving over to embrace Sana. She felt her tense up at her touch, making her nervous. Instead, the latter slightly relaxed as Jihyo threw her arms slowly around her, pulling herself closer to her clothed back. She fully expected Sana to jolt away but after she heard her breathing even out and her arms becoming more and more slack, she knew Sana wasn't going to move.
Jihyo could only let a quiet but heavy sigh as she followed suit.
"We both know that I won't forget.. partner."
