Eve took a deep breath before pushing open the door and walking down the steps slowly.
“Eve?”
Eve glanced down to see the man her mother had thrown out of the house. His black hair was combed to the side, and he was wearing a sports sweater with jeans. Eve rose an eyebrow.
“Yes?” She stood up straighter, her grip tightening on the railing.
“Eve…” His voice was softer this time and he smiled up at her. “I’m… your father.” He continued smiling taking a step towards her.
“No. You’re not. You left, you were gone, and I have no father.” Eve spat before turning around and marching upstairs. She hurried into her room slamming the door behind her. She dug her fingernails into the wood, glaring down at the floor, blinking furiously trying not to cry.

Maria came upstairs a little later on, knocking softly on the door. When she opened it, Eve was gone.
***
Eve and Will sat on his couch, Eve’s head on his shoulder, Will’s arm around her. Eve stared vacantly at the TV, and Will leaned over pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.
“You going to tell me what’s wrong now?” He asked softly and Eve shrugged.
“It’s just… family stuff, can I just stay here?” Eve leaned up kissing Will before he could respond. He nodded slowly, slightly confused before taking her face in his hands. He brushed her hair back smiling faintly at her.
“I love you.” He kissed her forehead gently before hugging her to his chest. “You’re amazing, beautiful, and perfect. Don’t forget that, okay?”
“I love you too, and I won’t.” She shut her eyes and soon fell asleep in his arms, and he rested his chin atop her head shutting his eyes.
In the morning, Eve left Will sleeping on the couch and headed home. Maria greeted her at the door, her eyes filled with worry.
“Where have you been, your father’s been worried sick.” Maria pushed Eve into the house frowning.
“I stayed at a friend’s house and he’s not my father.” Eve pulled away from Maria.
“He’s trying Eve.” Maria started to say but Eve spun around glaring.
“HE’S TRYING? WHY HASN’T HE BEEN “TRYING” THIS ENTIRE FUCKING TIME? HE HASN’T EARNED THE RIGHT TO BE MY FATHER! I HOPE HE ROTS IN HELL!” She rolled her eyes before heading into her room. She stared out the window before biting her lip. Her phone vibrated. It was Will and she answered immediately.
“You okay babe? Do you want to come over?” His voice relaxed her but Eve found herself saying no.
“No it’s fine. I have stuff I need to do… I love you Will.” A single tear escaped from Eve’s eye but she quickly wiped it away.
“I love you too… is there something wrong? Eve maybe you should come over, we can watch reruns of your favorite TV show.”
“No. No it’s okay. Everything’s fine. I’ll see you soon, okay?” This time her voice cracked, and she had to stifle a sob.
“Eve? I’m coming over. Just stay there okay? Don’t move.”
“No. I’m fine. I love you. Don’t worry about me anymore, please. I love you.” Eve smiled faintly before hanging up and climbing out the window.
She arrived at the tree faster than she had expected, just in time to see the sun set. She pulled out a crumpled piece of paper, reading it through.
Dear Will,
I love you and I’m sorry. This is something I have to do. You’ve been amazing and have kept me strong this entire time. But I can’t stay here anymore. I love you, I’ll see you soon okay? Stay strong for Liz, and take care of everyone for me. Bury me as far away from Connor as fucking possible. I love you.
Love, Eve
“I love you Will.” She whispered softly to the tree. She nodded slowly, she was never good at writing letters. She tacked the note to the tree staring up at the lowest branch, holding a long piece of rope. She was however, very good at tying knots.
***
Will was speeding but he didn’t care. Once he found out she wasn’t home, there was only one place she could be. He continued driving up the street and even though he didn’t believe there was a God, he began to pray.
“Let her be okay. Let her just be at the library or something.” When he saw the tree he knew he was too late. He could barely see the shape of a girl, but then he saw her move. She wasn’t hanging at all. He realized she was still alive, and he grinned. It wasn’t too late, he could make it. He could save her. He leaned out his window and screamed her name.
***
Eve spun around hearing her name. She turned around just in time to see a rather large truck slam into the side of Will’s car. Just in time to see the truck carry Will’s car across the road before it slammed into a building crumpling like a piece of tinfoil. Eve heard a scream, and began looking around for the source before realizing it was her scream. She was screaming his name just the way he had screamed hers. Just the way he had, right before he died.
