"So how did you two meet exactly? Kat told us it was at some party." My dad said sipping his beer while on his lazy boy looking at me and then at Shawn with a smile.

Shawn looked at me and he took a swig if his beer before looking at my dad.

"It was a friends birthday party and Katherine's friend Vanessa had asked me to get her from the dance floor." He said smiling at me.

"Ah yes. This one here is a dancer. She gets that from her mother. Could never get her to stop dancing whenever music was on." My dad laughed and looking at me.

My cheeks hot and I'm sure very visibly red.

My mom kept eyeing me and Shawn as we were sitting on the sectional seat with a small space between us but every so often Shawn's hand would brush on mines.

"So Shawn! How long are you in Canada?" My mom asked raising her eyebrow at me and sipping her wine.

Shawn cleared his throat and gave my mom eye contact as he spoke.

"I'm in Toronto for about a week and then I head to LA for a few days and start my North American leg of tour in Quebec." He smiled.

"Omg! Mom can I please go to the show?! Please." Lexi jumped in from her beanbag.

"Sweetie we can't. Who's gonna take you there and back? Plus tickets are sold out last time we checked with your friend Amber." My mom said making Lex fold her arms and pout as she sunk into her beanbag.

"I mean I could get you and your friend passes to the show. It's the least I can do for the hospitality you have given me." Shawn said turning to my parents and winking and Lex who's face grew so hot as she bashfully smiled.

"That's not necessary Shawn, thank you. But no." I said looking at him with a stern look.

He turned to me halfway and went to speak but not before Lex did.

"KAT ! Please let him. Please I would die to finally go to a concert of his. Mom and dad won't let me. It's practically free all you have to do is just chaperone."

I shook my head, "Lex. I took a week off to come back home now. I can't take another."

"Then take me to LA with you for the week and we can go from there and then come back home to drop me off." Lex said clapping her hands.

"Woah wait. We're the parental missy." My dad said sitting up straight.

Lex began to kick her legs and stomp, making Shawn move back in his seat as he looked on.

"Lex! Stop it." I got up and went to her side and she began to hum and rock herself as she started to cry.
"Hey, hey deep breaths okay. Let's count Lex remember. 1 is for the apple 2 is for the bananas 3 is for the carrots and 4 is for —

"Dinobites." Lex finishes as she tried to breath through it.

I stood rocking her for about five more minutes till she got to her safe space.

My kk turned to the kitchen chugging her wine and my dad got up and went somewhere.

It was only me Lex and Shawn in the living room now.

"I'm sorry." Lex got up and she looked at me and then Shawn who sat there just in silence as her watched me calm my sister.

"Don't be sweetie. I'm sorry. I didn't know." He said in a sincere manner.

Lex turned to me as I stood up and she hugged me tightly before she left the living room.

I pulled my escaped hair back into my ponytail and I took a deep breath.
