Jennifer

'Sorry sis, I won't be able to make it. Love you' I read aloud. I was happy my brother canceled to go to the club. I was too sore and tired to even attempt to get ready. Cortez's lifeless body laid beside mine. I love him, I really do, but I don't want to go through this our whole entire relationship. At the beginning he cheated and now this, he's a pro at what he does.

Today, I was officially done and that's final. I don't want to keep running after a man that doesn't want to be ran after. To think he was different, but he proved me wrong in the matter of minutes. I thought he was going to be my husband and actually fill that missing piece of my heart shaped puzzle but everything happens for a reason.

"Cortez, wake up," I said while poking his body. The sooner he gets out of here, the better.

"What baby?" He asked sleepily. His sexy morning voice hypnotizing me.

"You - you need to leave."

He jerked his head at attention and stared at me. "I need to what?"

"You should leave."

He sat up and glared at me. "You don't mean that Jenn." He rubbed my thigh softly. His touch sending chills up and down my body.

I pushed his hand away. "I can't keep going through this Cortez! You lyin' to me and shit. I can't trust you and without trust in this relationship, there's nothing. I don't want to have to worry about where you're going and who you're with. Since you want to do single shit, you can be single."

He sighed and stood up. He grabbed his clothes and walked out of my room. Soon after, I heard the front door slam.

'He'll understand', I said to myself as I laid back down.

Cortez

I drove over to my house going 70 mph. How could she break up with me? I know I was in the wrong but she supposed to stick with me through whatever.

When I arrived to my house, I went straight inside and grabbed my hidden liquor bottle and pulled out the recently bought weed in my pocket. This was initially my stress reliever before Nicki.

I perfected the blunt and lit it up. I took a long drag then my thoughts went to Jennifer. Her beautiful face and smile to her voluptuous body. She always was good company for me and always made me feel good. I can't believe I fucked that up. I took a sip of the alcohol. It burned my throat but I shook away the feeling.

"I love you Jennifer. Why can't you love a nigga back?" I asked myself.

"Because, you're a cheating loser," I replied to myself.

"I'll change baby. I swear."

"You're not going to change Cortez. You love pussy too much and you just can't have one girl."

"That's not me. I love you Jennifer. Please don't leave me," I begged. It all felt surreal.

I really did lose my future in the blink of an eye.

A month later

Jennifer

"Kailon, stop!" I yelled, trying to stop my brother from tickling me.

"Not until you tell me you're done moping about that no good nigga," he said while stopping the tickling. I sat up and shook my head. "It's not that easy Kailon."

His brows furrowed. "It's been a month Jennifer. You had time to get over his banana head ass."

"It's still not that easy Kailon. I loved him man. I hated the choices he made but that doesn't stop how I feel for him."

"You need a new nigga then. Ain't Destiny with Jace?"

I nodded my head and pouted. "Yes. She loves going with him. It seems like the ones I love the most are leaving me."

"That's not true."

"Yes it is. Grandma and Grandpa left me, mama and dad left me. Melanie left me. You left me and Cortez basically left me. I feel so alone Kailon."

He frowned. "Don't say that sis. I'll always be here."

I shook my head. People always say that but I fail to believe that. I've just been let down too many times to see what's real.

"We should go out tonight. Your choice of place," he suggested with a reassuring smile.

"What about home? It seems more comfortable and I don't really have to dress up ya know?"

He sighed and shook his head. "No, and I mean that Jennifer. You need to live! Make some new friends and find a new man. It's now or never."

I took his suggestion into consideration. I've been in a depression stage for quite a while now.

"Alright. There's a club opening up today. It's called The Penthouse. Think we should go?"

He nodded. "Hell yeah Jenn. Maybe I can find a broad or some."

"That's all you worry about. I swear," I said while giggling.

"Kailon has needs and Kailon is going to hop up on a Zebra tonight. Ya feel me?"

I shook my head while dying of laughter. "You're so stupid!"

"Well, I'll be by to come get you at 8 so be ready. Know it take your ass so long to get ready."

I straight faced him and stood up. "Get out Kailon."

He left out my house while laughing. I went upstairs and went inside of my closet. With Kailon lifting my spirits, I was starting to feel more confident in going out. I found a white, red, and black long sleeve dress with a circular neckline. I chose some black red bottoms heels.

I laid my outfit on my bed and looked at the time. With only two hours to spare, I hopped into the shower.

I lathered my body with Dove Almond Cream body wash. When I got out of the shower, I lotioned my body with sweet pea body lotion.

I sat at my vanity and applied light make up to my face. I then curled my long black hair. I slipped on my dress and put on my heels. Just in time, it was 7:54.

I smiled at myself in the vanity's mirror . I can hide the pain so well.

The blowing of a horn interrupted my thoughts. I got my purse and walked out the house to see Kailon sitting in his car with a grin on his face.

"At first, I thought you wasn't going to come but you look good sis."

"I feel good. Thanks Kailon."

"No problem knucklehead."
