chapter nine

Daphne POV

i woke up, and i felt super hot, like i was wrapped in a whole bunch of blankets. When the grogginess wore off, i realized that dick and wally had both their arms wrapped around me, and we were all snuggling.

i slowly moved their enclosing arms, and continued to moved at a slow enough pace, as to not wake them.

once i made it off my bed, i felt around the night stand, and discovered where my sun glasses were. As soon as i successfully got my glasses on, i felt around the wall until i got to the door. once i found it, i quietly opened it, and slipped outside, closing the door behind me.

i made my way to the kitchen, the lights weren't on, so i assumed that none of the others in this teenage team were awake yet. I flicked the lights on, only to  be startled by Kaulder sitting at the table drinking what i assume to be, coffee.

"oh my gosh, you scared me to death Kaulder" i gasped.

"My apologies, Amethyst"

"it's fine, i just wasn't expecting anyone to be here this early in the morning"

"i could not sleep well, so i came here"

"i'm sorry, is there a reason that you couldn't sleep well"

"nightmares"

"you too?"

"what were yours about"

"i don't really wanna talk about them, but if you ever want to talk to me about your nightmares, i'm here for you"

"that is much appreciated"

"your welcome" i gave him a warm smile, and made my way over to the counter, looking through the cabinets for some coffee grounds, so i could make dick some coffee.

once i found the stash, i put it into the coffee maker to make the caffeine. the machine beeped, telling me that it was ready. i pulled out two mugs from the cabinet, pouring the black liquid into the one of the white mugs, i poured some cream, and some sugar in it too.

with his coffee made, i grabbed some Pero, and warmed up half a cup of water in the microwave, when it was all warmed up, i put in some Pero into my cup, and filled it up the rest of the way with cream. Kaulder gave me a questioning look.

"what? it's just Pero"

"what is Pero?"

"its a drink, like a caffeine free coffee. they drink it in Italy all the time"

"ah"

i took my Pero, and Dick's coffee to the table, and sat down.

"so, what's it like to live in Atlantis?"

"it is good. i love the people there, and all the traditions, and our beloved king of coarse"

we just talked for a good hour about Atlantis, and i couldn't help but listen to every word he said.

wait what am i saying? do i like Kaulder?

my thoughts were interrupted by Dick walking into the room.

"what are we talking about?" he asked

"the history of Atlantis" Kaulder replied

"really? you wanted to listen to that?"

"it was actually kind of interesting"

dick just stared at me in shock.

"okay" he said in a kind of disbelieving tone.

"Anyways" i stretched out the word "i have your coffee, but it might be a little cold, so i suggest putting it in the microwave"

"yeah and you can drink your weirdo caffeine free coffee" dick replied, taking his coffee to go heat it up. i put my hand on my chest in mock offense.

"why Robin you wound me, my caffeine free Coffee is actually better for you than coffee is, so ha"

"Ha, you put so much cream in yours, that it's just as bad as normal coffee"

Kaulder just watched our interaction in amusement, while other members of our team started to trickle in for their breakfasts. after they got their individual meals, they all joined us, in the same seating arrangement as last night.

"so why were Wally and Robin in Amethyst's room last night?" artemis asked

the three of us all looked at each other having a silent conversation, as only friends as close as us could have.

we came to an agreement.

"simple, we were talking, and we all fell asleep in her room" Wally said

"what were you talking about?" M'gann asked, genuinely curious

"can't tell you, confidential information" Dick replied, although he looked really smug, like he knew something that they didn't, which was technically true, but still.

Artemis glared at the three of us, i could tell that this was gonna be a very long week, that would either bring us closer as a team or separate us more than we already were, i mean superboy, m'gann, kaulder, wally, and robin had all accepted me into the team willingly, but i don't know why artemis was having such an issue with me, i don't know why she doesn't trust me, and it still stings that i'm her best friend in our alter egos, and she is being so mean to me, but she has no idea who i am.

but a burning question still remained

did I have a crush on Kaulder?
