Inspired by Alec Benjamin's Must have been the wind
(Doesn't follow song's story exactly but yeah I love that song and someone requested it and I started dancing I was so happy)Dallas's POV
It was just another night. I got home late from a party and my head was pounding. The apartment was quiet. I sat on the couch and turned the tv on. After realizing there was nothing good and the fact that the tv made my head scream even more I decided I should just take a shower, hygiene or whatever. It'd probably be a good choice so I forced myself into the bathroom and stripped.
After a while of just standing in there letting the water rush over me, I heard something. It sounded like a bump
After a few moments I heard another, and then muffled shouts. I turned the water off and groaned. I hear a small shout and then a slam and footsteps. This had happened three times before.
They've disturbed the peace too many times, I slowly pull on my clothes and walk to the floor above mine. It took a while to find the room above mine but when I did I pounded on the door.
I heard a few muffled sounds and then the door opened. The door only opened a crack, inside I was met face to face with glossy dark brown eyes. A tan boy with curly black hair peeks out behind the door.
His nose is red and eyes are puffy.
"H-hello?" He says softly. His long hair fell in front of his face,
"Hey. Uh-" I was lost for words for a few moments but pulled myself together. Moments before I'd been ready to yell and go off on whoever was responsible for all the bumps and noise. But looking at this kid changed something in my tone.
"I just live below you and I was wondering about all the noise. For the past few days I've been hearing some things."
"Oh." He said quickly
"Are you okay? Are your folks home, cause I heard a few bangs and slams-" I'm interrupted.
"Sorry Mister... I think you must be hearing things" he stammered
"Wh-" my words are cut off
"I think your ears are playing tricks on you. Thanks for caring sir that was nice of you, but I have to go back in. Wish I could You about the noise but I didn't hear a thing. I think it must have been the wind"
"Must have been the wind?" I ask
"Must have been the wind." He shrugs.
"I do have to go now though, have a good night" he smiles shyly and shuts the door and I'm left standing there dumbfounded.
What had made all those noises? The shouts and bangs? Why was his nose and eyes red? I walked down to my floor and entered my apartment.
Just the wind my ass. I've only ever seen that kid maybe twice before. That's the first time I've ever spoke to him.
I climb into bed and stare at the roof. I wonder if he's in bed too. I wonder if he's alright, I know those noises weren't just some dumb wind.
I stretch out and let myself sink into the bed. I let my head rest and I drift to sleep.Third person POV
(Cause I don't like writing
in first person coz it's hard)Johnny sighs and sinks to the ground. He looks over at the knocked over table and broken glass. His back and arms hurt like hell and he wanted to scream.
He wouldn't dare to open his mouth though. His parents would be leaving for the night soon. Johnny looked at his bruising arms, his mom had gripped them so hard they turned white, she slammed him into the wall and knocked Johnny over.
"Who was at the door? What did they want?" Johnny's mother emerged from her room glaring at the boy,
"N-nothing just wrong apartment" he lied, if Johnny had told the truth his mother would've found a way to make it Johnny's fault, probably by calling him clumsy or fat.
His father appeared and grabbed his wife by the arm, "let's go dear" he said and the parents left the young boy to be by himself.Johnny's eyes filled with tears within seconds of them leaving. He's pulls his knees to his chest and begins to cry. While relieved his parents were gone, Johnny didn't like being alone. He felt scared and vulnerable. Being alone makes him over think things and get lost in his intrusive thoughts.
After a while of watching tv in the dark, scared and lonely, tears started to spill from his eyes. Johnny wondered to himself why he was born, why did he have to live this torture everyday. He could hardly stand it anymore, he just wanted it to stop.
He wanted the abuse and heartache to stop. He felt trapped in these apartment walls.
Johnny fell to the floor and cried, he banged his fist against the floor and whimpered.
Things sucked and he was getting fed up with it all.
Dallas awoke to nothing, just silence and a dark room. He groaned as he hadn't had much sleep the past while and wanted to rest, he got up and went to the small kitchen that was attached to the living room. He got himself some water and leaned against his counter.
Out of the blue he heard a small bang from upstairs. He looked up annoying, again?
He paused and felt a sudden rush of worry flow through him.
He thought of the boy with his red nose and teary eyes. He shut off the tv, which had been left on stupidly. The room fell silent until he heard a muffled high pitch noise.
If he had to guess it sounded similar to a child whimpering or crying.
Dallas's stomach turned and he felt sick, even after he ran to the toilet to empty his stomach he felt sick, he told himself it was the booze wearing off.
Dallas paced around the apartment then sat on his bedroom floor. He pushed his fingers through his hair and sighed, he plopped on his back onto floor.
Although he didn't really know the boy or care that much about his situation he felt inclined to do something. He's never felt like that before, the need to help. It's all new to him, he's never really cared about the well being for anyone, except maybe himself but that's about it.
After a moment he got up and decided he'd just check in on the boy. Just to see if he was awake, it was close to 2:00 AM, Dallas would just ask about the noise, it's clear it came from the room above, now weather it was the boy or the parents making noise he didn't know but he was already on his way to the floor above his.
He knocked on the door and stepped back. Inside a small gasp was heard, several moments passed until he knocked again, nothing. Dallas started to think no one was home.
Just as he was about to walk away, the door opened.
Dallas looked up and was greeted with a pair of deep brown eyes. They were glossy and red.
"Are you okay?" He asked almost in a whisper.
"I'm okay sir, why are you here?" His head bows slightly.
"I heard a bang, I wanted to make sure you were okay." Dallas paused. Had really just said that aloud.
His face would've red but no way in hell would he ever allow that to happen.
Johnny looked down
"Thank you sir, I promise you I'm okay, sorry about the bang, I don't know where it would've came from." Dallas could tell he was lying.
"I have to go, it's late and uh, I left the stove on." Tears threatened to fall from Johnny's eyes.
"Okay... well have a good night, sorry for bothering you" Dallas mumbled.
Johnny closed the door and immediately sunk to the floor, when the footsteps faded away Johnny buried his face in his hands.
Was he that loud of a crier?
Johnny sniffled and stomped to his room, he flung himself on the bed and decided he'd try to sleep.Dallas awoke to a quiet room, it was so silent it felt unnatural. He got up and made himself coffee. The sun was already up and shining, seeing as it was already 11:00.
Dallas sat on the couch and kicked his feet up, today seemed like it would be a boring day.
Johnny sat on his bed, knees pulled up to his chest.
Last night was rough, he was up so late and when he did finally go to bed he didn't stay asleep. He heard muffled voices through the walls and groaned, he could tell his parents were arguing.
Johnny threw off his shirt and got changed into a clean one. He snuck out of his room and out of the apartment. Quietly he walked down to the room below his and stood at the door. His fist was raised and he stood there. FrozenDallas stretched and scratched his chest. The lights were off in the apartment and he could see that someone was outside in the hall. He raised an eyebrow and stood up.
Dallas opened the door and saw Johnny standing in front of him.
"Uh..." Johnny's eyes were wide and his face was red.
"Oh hey kid." Dally said slowly
He scratches his head and stares at him.
"I was just... uh you know what this is a bad ideas I gotta go" Johnny goes to walk away but Dallas stops him with his hand.
"Hey no wait a minute, were you wanting to come in?" He asks, moving aside a bit to allow room for him to squeeze in.
Johnny stays quiet.
"I actually just..." he doesn't say anything else.
Dallas checks down the hallways and back at the boy,
"Get in" he grabbed his shoulder and moved him inside, Dallas closes the door and watches as Johnny looks around the apartment.
Dallas hasn't noticed but his face was as white as snow and he stood frozen.
He touched his shoulder and Johnny flinched, his hands went up to shield himself and Dallas felt as if he couldn't move.
Did he think Dallas was going to hit him or...
"Ah shit," he cursed
Of course he thought that, Dallas had checks the halls and grabbed the boy, he probably thought he was going to be raped or something.
"I'm not going to hurt you or nothing" he said
Johnny opened his eyes
"Fuck man I- sorry it's just-" Johnny started
"You don't have to explain." Dallas said flatly.
Johnny looked
"Promise I'm not playing tricks on you... you're always welcome to come in"
he places his rough hand onto Johnny's shoulders, something about this beaten puppy was different from the other stupid kids.
"You can stay here for an hour or two.. if you ever need a friend"
Johnny looked at him with big sad eyes
"We could take about the noise when you're ready but till then..."
"Well say it must have been the wind." Dallas said
"Must've been the wind." Johnny repeated
Must've been the wind."Bonus
Johnny has been coming to see and hang out with Dallas for a while now, the beatings were getting worse and despite being sixteen his parents want him out of the house.
Johnnys eye watered as he knocks on Dallas's door, he couldn't go back home while his parents were there.
His eye was swollen shut and his lip was a bleeding mess.
Dallas opened the door and almost gagged. It's not like his injuries were that bad, Dallas had seen way worse, Dallas had been through worse. In New York he saw people die, even in Tulsa he saw people die.
But seeing someone as mellow and kind as Johnny in this state unsettled Dallas's stomach. Johnny was innocent and certainly didn't deserve this.
Dallas quickly looked down the hall and pulled the kid in.
"What the hell happened?" Dallas grabbed Johnny's face, squishing his cheeks and lips together with his big hands and examined both sides of his face.
"Mhrmph-" Dallas let go of Johnny's face
"My parents." Johnny repeated
Dally's fists clenched and his knuckles went white.
"Bastards."
Dallas grabs Johnny and pulls him into a hug.
Johnny rests his head.
"Thanks Dal"
"I'm feeling dangerous let's go see that friend of yours, what's his name? Ponybitch?"
Johnny stifles a laugh and punches Dallas lightly.
"It's PonyBOY"
"Oh yeah yeah, that one. Cmon let's go"
Dallas puts his arm around Johnny and they leave.
