When I get back to Zero, the sun has risen more and dressed as best he could. I toss him the clothes that I stole and pick up the remaining clothes.

"Where did you get these?" He asks as he finishes putting on the jacket I gave him.

I shrug. "Oh you know, just laying around."

He stares at me and before he can ask more, I hand him the fruit that Adrian and I stole. "Have you turned into a thief?"

"Please," I roll my eyes. "This is just making ends meet until we leave."

"Leave?" Zero asks. "Where are we going?"

I sit on the floor while Zero eats. "I was thinking the next town over. I know that it's far but it can put enough distance between us and the Hunter's Association headquarters and more specifically, Yagari."

"But he can't catch up to us that fast. We had a head start."

"That's true, but that won't keep him down for long." I say. "We had an hour, hour in a half if we were lucky, until it wore off. He probably pulled Cross in and turned in for the night. I have no doubt that he got up at the break of dawn to report to the H.A."

"Then how are we supposed to get out of town?" Zero asks.

I scratch the back of my neck. "I haven't figured that part out yet."

"Are you kidding me?" Zero looks at me incredulously. "How are we supposed to pull it of if you don't have a complete plan?"

"At least I have one." I retort. "Like I told you, I didn't have to do this. I didn't have to sacrifice my life to save yours!"

"I never asked you to!" Zero shouts.

I stand up so I'm looking at him in the eye. "So what, you wanted me to stand by and let them kill you?"

"Well with your step-less plan I might as well be a dead man!"

"Fine then!" I yell. I throw the tattered clothes on the floor and walk past Zero.

His gaze follows me. "Where are you going?"

"If you're a dead man then there's no reason for me to stay and help you." I say as I stop to look back at him. "I'll find my own way to hide from the H.A. and save my own ass."

I look forward and resume walking down the stairs of the building.

"(Y/N), wait." Zero calls after me.

I ignore him and keep going. I don't hear him follow me. I bite my lip and step outside, turning to walk down the street.

What happened to the tender and honest Zero I knew? I know that he's still there, he's revealed himself to me before, like last night. How could he be like this after that? I'm just trying to keep him alive. I don't want to witness Toga or the H.A. kill him. It's not like I was trying to get him killed. I thought that if I had an idea, everything would come to me as I went.

I stop and lean against the alley's wall. With a sigh, I let myself slide down and pull my knees close to me. I need to pull myself together enough to think things out. Zero had a point. If I didn't think everything out, I would get us caught and killed.

The closest town is three hours away by automobile, but that's taking the main route. If a person took the back way then it would take at least five. That way would take five days to walk, and that's with little to no stops. But it was the least populated and we would be covered by woods. And I'm sure that there's bound to be cabins out there that we could house squat in. There'd be preserved food and places to sleep. There would also most likely be weapons in there that we could use. It wont be the best, but it'll be something. The only problem is that the back way is in the same direction as many of the other abandoned parts of town where Vampires lurk and kill people. Zero and I are defenseless and can't rely on our brute force alone.

"Shit..." I mutter. There's no way that we would be able to make it.

Yagari's P.O.V.

I couldn't get any sleep last night. I kept tossing and turning, trying to think of ways that I could save both (Y/N) and Zero. Even with all my influence in the H.A., the most I would be able to do is keep them from killing (Y/N).  Zero would most definitely be murdered in cold blood and (Y/N) thrown in prison.

I walk out of my room and towards Kaien's office. I light a cigarette as I walk. The Night Class students are probably walking back to their dorms, but it's not like I care. Cross has a twisted sense of humour to have me teaching those leeches. I stop in front of the office and stomp out my smoke then walk inside. When I reach his office, I see that Kaname Kuran is sitting in there. Though his face is as stoic as ever, you could see his displeasantness.

"Oh good, you're here." Kaien says. "I was about to phone you."

"What's going on?" I ask as I step into the room and close the door behind me.

"I am aware that Zero has run off with your daughter." Kaname says.

"I didn't think that was an issue for you." I say.

"Normally it isn't," The Prince says. "But seeing how Zero poses a threat to what Kaien and I have worked hard to establish here and Cross Academy, I have made it my issue."

I look between him and Cross. "How so?"

"Zero is close to losing what he has left of his humanity. That fact that his identity as a vampire is not known, the possibility of him going off the rails could bring it to light and create fear in the Day Class student body, along with parents."

"Kaname thinks," Cross interjects. "That we should find Zero and (Y/N) and bring them back to the school."

"That won't be possible." I say. "The Hunter's Association will want them."

"I haven't told them what happened yet."

I look at Cross, bewildered. "Why not?"

"Because I might have a way to keep Zero from falling to Level E." Kaname says.
