It had been almost 20 minutes since Mr. Sam ran away. She had cried for a while, then her mind went blank from the shock again. Her hair was a mess and her remaining clothes were full of sand. Her eyes looked dead, and her stare didn't have any life in it. She was like a puppet without strings, hardly in control of herself.
Emily took her pants and tried to put them back on. Every single movement down from the waistline hurt. Walking hurt. Sitting hurt. Standing straight hurt. She walked home, supporting herself from the bike. Her mom tried to call her, but she didn't want to answer. Emily couldn't speak clearly and she wanted to explain everything when she got back. Under 25 minute long journey to home took almost one and a half hour.
After she put her bike back to the storage room, she walked slowly to her home door, knowing her mother would yell at her for not answering her calls.
- "Young lady, you have a phone so that you can... What on earth happened to you?!" Her mom asked in a shock. As soon as she heard mom's voice, she started crying again, this time uncontrollably. Her mother placed her to sit on the lowest part of the stairs, brushing her clothes and hair off sand. Dim was in the living room following the situation from aside astonished. Michael wasn't home yet.
- "It hurts mom it hurts so bad..." she sobbed.
- "Try to breathe and calm down a little, what happened to you? Where does it hurt?" Her mom asked calmly.
She put her hand on her stomach. "It was Mr. Sam, he... he..." Emily couldn't get a word out of her mouth, but her mother figured out what she meant and looked at Dim across the room, he still didn't get it.
- "Emily, dear, listen to me." She knelt down and put both of her hands on Emily's shoulders. "We need to go and tell the police about this. He can't get away with this." Her mother tried to stay calm, being in a verge of tears herself.
- "If we go I won't say anything to them, I can't speak about it. I just can't! "
"She has been raped by Mr. Sam" her mom mouthed to still astonished Dim. Rage flamed up in his eyes as he understood what was going on.
- "I will murder that sick son of a bitch!" He murmured. "He has two daughters on her own!" Indeed, the younger one was the same age as Michael and her sister just a few years older.
- "Sweetie, please we need to go to the police, or at least to the health center. They will help you." She tried to reassure her.
- "No no no I'm not going anywhere I wanna stay home, safe. No police or doctors!" Emily started to panic even more. If I go and tell someone he'll find out and do something worse to me.
The mom took Emily to her arms and hugged her as tight as she could, that was all she could do in this moment. She knows what her daughter is going through. When she was young her own godfather had used her for his own desires. He got caught when her mom told about it to her mother, Emily's grandma.
They're in a dead end. They know who did and what had happened, but going to the authorities wasn't going to work as Emily didn't agree to talk about it. Her mom had to hold Dim still telepathically because he would otherwise go and literally beat him to his last breath.
Minutes went by, Emily had calmed down a little. Being in her mother's arms helped to ease the pain she was going through.
- "I wanna go to sleep." Emily said, slowly raised her head and looked at her mom.
- "Sure sweetie, if there's anything we can do to help you just say it." Her mom said. The situation had taken a toll of her, it could be seen on her face.
Emily started walking upstairs towards her own room, closed the door, fell down to her bed and curled herself in the blanket and started crying, again. She spent rest of the evening in her bed, didn't eat anything, didn't speak to anyone. She was in shock and lost in her own thoughts.
My body has been taken from me... he's a monster... I'm ashamed for being like this... should have left with Michael... why did I stay behind... men are scary... people are scary... I don't wanna be touched again, never...
I don't wanna go outside alone anymore. I don't wanna go to public places. I can't tell about this to my uncle or grandpa, they'll only worry more.
She heard her mom and Dim talking downstairs about the possibilities in this situation. She couldn't hear them well but she knew what they were talking about. Her mom called Emily's grandma and told her about the situation and Emily knew that it'd make her grandma worried sick. Grandma is on a work trip you don't have to ruin it for her. She'll worry so much. I'm sorry grandma...
Emily's summer holiday was only at the beginning, but rest had been ruined for her. Most of the rest of the holiday she stayed inside and didn't go out because she was afraid she was going to meet up with Mr. Sam somewhere.
It was the last time she let anyone touch her or even come near to her. She was afraid of everything at this point.
