The Billionaires Mermaid (Avengers fanfic)

Part fish

I know that I should be feeling nervous right about now. I would assume that everyone would feel nervous when they are about to walk into a room full of superheros. But I am feeling oddly at home. Not like my island, kind of home but more like, I belong with these people. I snap out of my thoughts when I hear the elevator bing and the doors open. I follow Nat out into the living room.

There I see Steve, Bucky, and Clint talking with everyone else. Clint is the first to notice us. Nat and Clint started introducing me to Vision, Sam, Wanda, Pietro, Bruce and Tony. They continued on with small talk, them trying to include me occasionally, but finding me to be too unskilled in social interactions to keep a conversation going.

"So are you really part fish?" Tony asked skeptically while eyeing me.

"Uh. I'm a mermaid if that is what your asking. There is a difference between being part fish and a mermaid." I reply a bit taken back from the bluntness of his question. I am getting the feeling that him and Nat are very blunt. I don't think they mean to be though.

"Bullshit." Was his reply.

"Tony don't start on this." Nat warned. While I looked at her confused on as to what is happening. Tony was about to say something but I cut him off.

"I can show you if you don't believe me. I know that it's a bit far fetched especially for people that believe in only science." I got slightly excited by the thought of going for a swim.

"Gemini, you don't have to if you don't want to." Nat reminds me.

"No. It's fine I've been wanting to get back in the water since we got here anyway." I assure her. She just stares at me for a second to make sure I'm telling the truth before taking my hand and guiding me towards the elevator. Everyone quickly piled in behind us, apparently wanting the same visual confirmation as Tony.

Once we reached the floor I started getting nervous. It had hit me that I was gonna intentionally show my tail to people. The one thing that I had been working on hiding from everyone since I was 14, I was gonna expose. Nat seemed to sense my sudden nervousness. She was about to say something but the bing of the elevator cut her off.

I smiled to myself at the smell of chlorine and the sight of water. All of the fear and self doubting was gone the second I saw the reflection of the water dance around carelessly on the wall. I stopped myself from running and diving straight into the water. I set my phone down on a near by pool chair. I could feel everyone's eyes on me as I went straight to the pool edge.

"Don't you want to take off your shirt or something first?" Wanda asked me.

"No need." Was all I replied with before I dived into the water with the form of an Olympic diver.

I could feel the second my finger tips broke through the water. An overwhelming sense of belonging enveloped me as my toes went fully under. The tingles spread and ignited my body with a feeling that was almost euphoric. The feeling of shifting was easily better than any drug. The feeling and pride that I took when the numbness and excitement flooded my system was something unmatched. There was truly no way of describing it that would give justice to the true feeling that invades every one of your senses and washed away the outside world.

I opened my eyes and welcomed the slight stinging, but soon pushed the pain away as I started flicking my tail to bring me to the surface. My head popped up out of the water as my arms instinctively started moving forwards and backwards to keep me above the water. I turned around and smiled at Tony's shocked face. I wanted to splash him so bad but didn't want to risk the chance of my phone getting wet. So I settled for just some simple teasing.

"Believe me now?" I said staring Tony directly in the eye. Nat and Wanda imidently picked up on this.

"I think you need to apologize to Gemini, Tony." Wanda suggested.
