All of the concern and sadness that I had for the poor turtles turned into rage as the last turtle escaped. I wanted to watch those boats burn with the people still on them. But alas, I am a peaceful mermaid. My whole life people have used force to get what they want out of me and I pride myself on being better than them. Using other, more peaceful, ways to get what I want. That being said, I couldn't just let them get away without ANY punishment though. They had taken it too far this time. So, I did the first thing that came to mind. Created giant water tentacles to come out of the water and steal their catch. Those fish belong to the sea anyways. I sent the tentacles to take the fish to the sharks so we don't have another hungry shark incident like last night. The faces of shock and horror on the peoples faces were priceless though. So I don't regret it to much. I am hoping that the fear of seeing water tentacles pop out of the ocean and steal their fish would spread and scare away any fishermen that want to come near the island.
Having gotten my anger out, and a new found joy from their faces replacing it, I continued my swim back to the island when I felt their engines turn back on and them move away from my island. It didn't feel right when I got back to the island though. There weren't as many fish around as yesterday and the fish that were there seemed slightly more scared and quicker to swim away. Nevertheless I continued with my normal routine swimming laps around the island. I couldn't shake the feeling of being followed though.
It wasn't until I exited the shark breeding grounds that I understood why the fish were scared. There were people in the water. People that weren't a research team, and people the don't deserve to be in my water near my island. I quickly his behind some coral and watched what they were doing. They were taking some of the fish and attaching cameras to some of the coral. They were taking my fish and messing with my coral. They are worse than fishermen.
I shoved myself further behind the coral and turned around the best I could while still hiding behind the coral. Once I was facing the direction of the breeding ground again I swam back into it. The sharks were curious on why I was coming from that direction instead of the other like normal. I ignored the sharks the best I could and hid in a perfectly sized mermaid hide away in the coral. It was dark enough that they wouldn't see my metalic tail and the sharks were still curious about me hiding that they keps swimming near the hide away effectively shooing away any people that may come near by.
My plan was to give them about 2 hours before they clear out and I can go back to hiding on my island. Sadly, the mystery people weren't going to let my plan work. I started spotting them entering the shark breeding ground. The sharks were freaking out because this has never happened before. If this were to happen any other day I would be able to rely on the sharks to eat them or atleast attack them, but I had just fed them the fisherman's catch so they weren't hungry and therefor not aggressive.
The sharks swam away from my hiding spot as people neared it. I tried my absolute hardest to hide in the darkness but luck seems to not like me today. One of the men spotted me. He started swimming over to get a better look but if I was spotted I am sure as hell not going to just sit there and let him get a better look. I pushed myself out of the hideaway and super swim to the otherside of the island. But, much to my disappointment, there were people there too. I didn't have anywhere else to swim to, and that is when the fear and panic set in.
All that I could hear was my heartbeat. The feel of the water seemed to fade away as my heart beat painfully against my chest. My stomach started doing flips as my eyes started to frantically search the water above me for somewhere for me to get out. Panicked thoughts, worst case scenarios, and painful memories flooded my mind before I finally spotted a rock that was far enough away from the island that they hopefully wouldn't notice me. The only problem is that I don't know how I'm gonna get to it without being spotted.
