I thought I wasn't afraid of anything anymore.

That's what was running through my head until I saw my own group be devoured by those disgusting things.

It's terrifying that this is the world we live in.

All I could focus on was running. I knew there were people who needed my help back there, but I was so scared to look back.

All my body could do was run, I didn't even focus on my thoughts, I couldn't think.

I ran for what felt like miles, everything was silent aside from my shoes hitting the dirt.

I swung my head and looked behind my shoulder, making sure there were no monsters chasing me, that was until I fell over.

I quickly got up and dusted myself off, stepping away from the figure who was rubbing their forehead in pain.

"Watch where you're going." the voice spoke, gazing directly at the cold ground.

I said nothing, continuing to slowly back away in a frightened stance.

The man on the ground turned his head to face me, his concerned eyes locked onto mine.

"Are you okay?" he spoke, pushing himself up off the ground, still looking in my eyes.

"Don't come any closer!" I warned. Admittedly, I had no way of defending myself, I couldn't do anything to him.

"I don't want to hurt you," he put his hands up, displaying that he had no weapons on his person. "The name's Javier, but people call me Javi."

"(Y/N)," I replied, stepping closer to him, his shadowy face becoming brighter with each step.

"Where's your group, (Y/N)?" Javier asked.

My face turned to a frown as I remembered what had happened only hours before.
I suppose he had read and understood my expression, he had placed his hand on my right shoulder for comfort.

A smile appeared on his face. "How would you like to join my group?"

"Will they be mad at you if I joined?" I questioned him, shifting my weight to my other leg and placing my hand on my hip.

Javier bellowed. "Will you be mad at yourself for joining?"

"I don't understand."

"(Y/N)," he giggled. "I don't have a group."

I shut my eyes tightly and placed my free hand on my forehead. "Wow," I clicked my tongue. "I'm not usually this dumb."

"I'm sure you'll be a great asset to the group."
