Marinette's POV
He's chasing me, but where? Around me I only see darkness and I fear that there's no end, no end to this misery. I hear high-pitched shrieks and whimper powerlessly as they claw into my mind; there was a tap at my shoulder. I spun around and fell, losing my balance. I couldn't get up, I was out of breath from the chase.
"Well, well, well what do we have here,"
The screams I hear are faded but clear, it sounded familiar. Too familiar.
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng" Beads of sweat broke out as I panted, this is what I feared. Being powerless. I had control of every situation but this one.
"Who....are....you?" I say in between breathes, unable to get back on my feet. I cupped my left knee and slowly ran a finger on the bruise, tracing it's outline.
"Oh, you know all too well who I am," A cold chill ran down my spine, something inside me was unsettled. My head was spinning from the fall and my clammy hands fell limp to the ground as I struggled to lie down. Words repeatedly echoing in my empty mind.
You should go home to your daddy, oh wait you don't have one
You are nothing
Eww, the loser actually came today
Laughing intensified, it hurt. My head spun and spun, I thought I was about to throw up. The silhouette came closer and cackled, light blue eyes came into view; nothing else. It was most probably a girl, definitely a girl. A flash fired and I saw it, a knife. My heartbeat picked up and I slightly panicked before I realized; I want to die. So I simply laid there, helpless and desperate for the pain to end.
Her smile vanished a few paces from where I lay and the knife stayed frozen mid-air as if there was something holding it back, something trying to protect me; but I knew that it wouldn't last because I wasn't worth protecting, no, I deserved to parish.
"You got lucky this time," She said through gritted teeth before her smirk reappeared "Your savior is here, but remember this;" She walked away fiddling with the knife; twisting it, throwing it and catching it the last minute, all that made me tremble in fear. Her every move; the way she took long confident strides, the way the weapon in her hand danced gracefully and the way she smiled at my suffering, my pain. There was something to this mysterious girl, she had enough of me to make me fear her.
Amidst the engulfing darkness, her voice taunted me as I began to gasp for air. "You will be the death of him,"
Third person POV
Marinette grabs a hold of the sheets and gasps for air as she wakes up. Just another nightmare, even the dark shadows of her own mind refused to give her a moment of peace. Beads of sweat drip onto the soaked sheets and she regains her cool composure; or at least tries to. The asylum looked much more terrifying at night, it had that ghostly aura attached to it and the shadows seemed to dance among-st the empty parts of the room. For a moment, she thought she could see the girl in her dreams, holding the knife, standing among the dark beings that made her sweat a river with each move of their little dance; they started to disappear, one by one.
A clandestine trait that she kept to herself was that she wasn't completely insane, she was still human, she still had emotions, she feared herself, she still had the capacity in her heart for empathy; but unfortunately not for long, just like the shadows, all that disappeared within each passing second.
Her tears were dry, they refused to come out and show weakness. She used to think that it was because she'd already cried them all and simply ran out but now she knows that there's a bigger reason to that. Her chest was hollow. Almost hollow. The one thing that could change all that wasn't in reach; she had just made it clear that she didn't want to see him ever again.
