Klaus made his way up the steps of the Gilbert's porch. Originally, he had arranged to meet Jenna at the Mystic Grill, but upon realising that Stefan or Elena might get wind of it - he decided to drop by the house instead, unannounced, of course.
He was planning to get Alaric back into Jenna's good books, so that he could use her against Elena if she did decide to do something stupid. If Klaus had learned anything, it was to never trust anything that Katerina had said: and she told him that Elena wouldn't run.
They were standing in the kitchen, preparing some lunch when the doorbell rang. Klaus instantly recognised the voice of Stefan when Jenna opened the front door.
"Hey, Jenna, thank you so much for not going to the Grill."
"Umm, Stefan..."
"No, listen. I can explain-"
Klaus joined them in the hallway, and smiled warningly towards his old friend. "Hi, Stefan. How's it going? Let's move this into the kitchen, shall we?" Like the perfect gentleman, Klaus ushered Jenna ahead of him and found himself amused by the glare that Stefan shot his way.
The Original moved back to the chopping board, and selected a rather large knife to chop up some vegetables.
"You know, I find chopping...calming. Perhaps it's the feel of a blade in my hand, maybe."
"I'm still waiting, for someone to tell me what the hell is going on!" Jenna complained.
"Well, would you like to tell her, Stefan? Or should I? Your way might be better than mine, of course."
"Tell me what?"
Stefan was silent, and Klaus found humour in the Ripper sparing a thought for the feelings of a mere human. "Do you believe in a vampires, Jenna? No?" He couldn't help but chuckle at the disbelieving look she had on her face. "Well, believe it or not, they do have a place in our history. And as a history teacher, I find them rather fascinating."
"Why are we talking about this?" Jenna queried.
"Because you've been angry at me for keeping secrets, and this is one of those secrets. I'm obsessed with vampires. There: I said it!" He looked down at the chopping board, "Is that enough tomatoes?"
"Are you joking?"
"I don't joke, love. Stefan? Are you a fan of vamps?"
"In literature." Stefan said, causing Klaus to scoff. "Bram Stoker. It's dense, but I appreciate it."
The Original turned back to Jenna, feeling delighted when she looked a little worried. "Did you know that vampires are the oldest creatures of the night? Except for werewolves, of course."
Jenna's look of worry then morphed into a sassy scoff of disbelief, "Werewolves? Right. Now, I know that you're joking."
"Being the history geek that I am," Klaus mocked Alaric's chosen profession. "I've read that there's this Aztec curse placed on both species; that keep werewolves slaves to the Moon and vampires bound by the Sun. isn't that right, Stefan? You know, they say these creatures would do anything to have this curse broken. Anything. And they wouldn't care who they had to kill to do it."
There was the fear he was looking for.
"I know this all sound so crazy, but vampires are real."
"Get out!" Jenna suddenly exclaimed, her body shaking in anger to mask her fear.
"I'm afraid I don't want to go, love."
Jenna sassed out that she would go, if he wouldn't, and Klaus picked up the knife once more. "You're not going anywhere-"
In a flash, Stefan had pushed him up against the refrigerator and the knife fell from Klaus' grasp. The strength of the Salvatore (from a human perspective) was intense, however, Klaus could feel how weak the vampire really was. His old friend needed something straight from the vein, to give him a little kick start.
"Stefan!" Jenna screamed.
"Jenna, get out of here now!"
Klaus just laughed, "You can't kill me, Stefan."
"Watch me-"
"-I may not have a witch protecting me today, but if you kill this body, what's to stop me from choosing Jenna as my next one, hmm?"
To get Jenna to finally leave, Stefan 'vamped out'. Klaus laughed gleefully, "Ah, there he is! A vampire in his true glory!"
"Shut up!"
"Kill me then." Klaus taunted, "But when you do, just remind Elena how easy it'll be for me to get my revenge if she tries to stop me from breaking this curse."
Stefan punched him in the face. Klaus didn't feel any pain, but he knew that poor Alaric would have a broken nose. The younger Salvatore then kicked him in the stomach, and although Klaus was angry at not being able to fight back in this weaker form, he couldn't help but grin at seeing a flash of the Stefan he once knew, still inside this poor excuse of a vampire.
As the younger Salvatore left, Klaus pushed himself to Alaric's legs with a sigh. He took a moment to stretch out the history teachers aching limbs, and cracked his neck before he headed back to the apartment.
Obviously, Katerina was enjoying herself and Klaus just had to stop that. He could hear incredibly loud music, and her footsteps on the creaking floorboards as she danced around the apartment, however, as soon as he entered - she was sitting motionless on the sofa with a glass of bourbon in her hand.
He could smell the vervain in the air, but he said nothing. Of course the elusive vampire would have some way of fighting his future compulsion.
"You mind turning down that awful racket?" Of course, it was not a question.
Katerina did as he asked, "Why are you so grumpy?"
Klaus sighed, and took her glass of bourbon for himself, "This body has certainly outlived its usefulness."
Maddox then entered the room and Klaus huffed in exasperation, "Took you long enough!" He snarled, "Did you go on a bloody cruise?"
"You've got a lot of luggage." Maddox replied, causing Klaus to let out a huff of annoyance. This witch was definitely cutting a fine line between staying alive and dying, with this backchat. Klaus was, by no means, his friend.
He smirked flirtily towards the dark skinned witch, "Greta, finally."
She blushed, "Nice body. Are you ready to get out of it?"
He grinned, and pulled her in for a heated kiss; ignoring Katerina's gagging noise. Klaus then took his place beside the coffin that held his body, and looked at the floor around him. "I'd suggest someone get the old man a cushion to fall on, but, one more beating won't kill him."
Greta and Maddox began their chant, and Klaus felt that familiar tugging in his chest that signified the start of his transfer. He felt incredibly light headed, and then there was the sensation of floating, before he felt empowered in his own body once more.
Klaus stretched out his fingers, and pushed open his coffin with arms that he was used to. He couldn't keep the sinister grin off of his face as he stepped into the room, "Now, this is more like it."
