Klaus soon realised why Stefan didn't suggest Bethany to take up a spot in the drivers seat. If he had been human, he probably would've died of a heart attack! The young woman became distracted by almost anything and everything, and the amount of times he had to grab the wheel before they mounted a curb, was insane.

"Sweetheart, do you even know how to drive?"

"I had a couple of lessons. My mum gave up after a while."

In other words: no.

"I can tell." He said, motioning for her to pull over. Although money was no issue to him, he didn't want to have to buy another car if she crashed it.

As soon as she hopped out of the drivers seat (leaving the engine running), Klaus had to put the handbrake on as the car began to roll backwards. He watched as she grabbed her camera, and took a couple of pictures of some horses in a nearby field.

Klaus turned to Stefan in the backseat, "Why didn't you mention the fact that she couldn't drive?"

Stefan shrugged, "It wouldn't matter to us, if we crashed."

Klaus got out of the passenger side, and made his way around the car to get into the drivers seat. Bethany had only been driving for about ten minutes, but at the speed she had been going she made a huge dent in the distance they needed to get to Pensacola. She got into the passenger seat, and smiled awkwardly.

"At least we didn't die."

Stefan scoffed from his spot in the backseat, and Klaus returned her awkward smile with an amused one of his own. "Yes, there's that."

As soon as they reached the next motel, he parked the car and switched off the ignition. He looked over at Bethany, who had her nose wrinkled slightly, and when he glanced into the back - Stefan had the exact same expression on his face.

Both of them were staring out of the window, and Klaus followed their eyeline towards the motel. It was a little shabby, yes, but it would do for the night.

"What's wrong with it?" He asked.

"What isn't?" They both replied.

Klaus rolled his eyes and opened the door, before vamping around and opening Bethany's for her.

"Are you serious?" She questioned, still wearing her seatbelt. "I don't mind sleeping in the backseat, if you want to carry on driving. In fact, I think I'd prefer it."

Stefan begrudgingly got out of the vehicle, and collected their bags. "I can smell marijuana."

"I can see marijuana, growing in a pot on the windowsill." Bethany added, nodding her head towards the reception room.

"So its a little free-spirited." Klaus rolled his eyes, "Think of it as an experience."

Bethany gave him a deadpanned expression, "Well, I'm not going inside first." She gestured towards the main building, "Go inside and see if you can smell the plague, or something. If you can, I'll pitch a tent elsewhere."

Klaus went inside and requested two rooms, one a twin for him to share with Bethany. As they entered their room, the artist immediately screamed as a rat ran across the threadbare carpet.

"Just one of Stefan's pastime favourite meals. Nothing to fear, sweetheart."

He could hear her heart racing in her chest, and couldn't help but chuckle. A vampire hunter, frightened by a mere rodent?

Bethany dug into her bag, and grabbed a pair of gloves before setting to work at clearing up after the previous occupant of the room. The needles, and used foil wrappers that were left strewn about the place made it obvious that a lustful couple of heroin addicts had been there before them.

"Can you go and compel someone to come and clean this place up?" She questioned, gesturing towards one of the beds, "I'm not sleeping on a strangers cum stain."

Klaus did as she requested, and met Stefan outside the room. "Your place as disgusting as mine?" The Ripper asked. "I heard a scream, and something about a 'cum stain'."

"There was a rat." Klaus tilted his head to the side, teasingly. "Feeling peckish?"

"The rat certainly sounds more appealing than these addicts."

Klaus 'hmmed' in agreement, "You're welcome to go and search for someone more to your liking."

He left the Salvatore then, and made his way into the main building and compelled someone to become Bethany's thorough 'five-star quality' cleaner. Whilst they were removing any leftover bodily fluids, drugs and needles, and making sure the toilet was clean enough to eat off of, he took the beautiful blonde out in the car and over to a diner. It was a few miles away, but if he heard her stomach growl one more time, he would be hungry himself!

Bethany ordered a cheese burger, fries and a milkshake, and as soon as the meal arrived - the young woman practically inhaled it. She reminded Klaus of a wolf, devouring her prey.

The blonde blushed when she caught Klaus' eye with her own, "Sorry, I forgot my manners."

"It's quite alright, sweetheart." He replied, with a small smile. He picked up his cup of coffee and took a sip, "Would you like dessert?"

"No, thank you." She replied, drinking more of her milkshake before leaning back in the booth. "So, this Ray Sutton...I'm guessing he's a werewolf?"

"Pack leader." Klaus informed her, "I find Ray, I find his whole pack. That means I can make several hybrids."

"And how do you do that?" Bethany asked, "Just...turn them into vampires?"

"Exactly." He replied with a grin.

She didn't look particularly impressed, and Klaus felt the need to explain how grand it would be. Who wouldn't want to be a Hybrid? The immortality, strength and speed of a vampire, the venomous bite of a wolf, the freedom to change at will...it was magnificent!

"If you were a wolf, sweetheart, I'd have made you into this greater being already."

Bethany said nothing in response to that, but thanked him for her meal as he paid. Then, they climbed back into the car and drove back to the shabby motel.

Their room was spotless when they arrived, and the beautiful blonde beamed over at him.

"Much better." She quickly took herself into the bathroom for a shower, and Klaus took the opportunity to peruse his map.

He sat himself down on an armchair (Bethany had yet to decide which bed was going to be hers), and noted that they would reach Pensacola in just over two days.

His ears picked up the sound of a small scream then, and he vamped to the bathroom door a second before Bethany called out: "The water's cold!"
