PHOEBE POV:
~Flashback continued~
Glancing back and forth between the mid ajar wall and the door behind me, I was left in a silent decision-making stage. Do I step towards my exit or towards the odd wall?
Taking a final decisive breath, I carefully stepped inside the secret room to only receive the shock of my small five years old of existence. The walls of the room were decorated with various guns, swords, knives of all lengths and sizes, medals, other kinds and types of weapons collection whose name I just couldn't remember. On one side of the wall, several mid-size computer screens took half the wall space. On the side of this massive array of screens was a single brown mahogany table with its chair rolled sideways and a lone computer sitting on top with several files piled around it. Behind the desk was a bookshelf filled to the tooth and a big black TV the length of the wall in front of the table.
Dumbstruck, I scanned the room with wide eyes and an agape mouth. No wonder my father was always bored when watching spy movies with me, he was freaking living it.
Just to double-check I was not dreaming, I pinched myself hard. After all, I was still a kid filled with childish behaviours. Luckily for me, I quickly learned to never do such a stupid and painful act again. Instantly covering my mouth after pinching myself to muffle my upcoming cry of pain it took me great strength to stay quiet and calm.
Not noticing me yet, my father busily loaded his bags with the sorts of weapons I've never ever seen in my entire life while talking and shouting at the guy on the screen between explanations of some plans. Amidst all the discussion, I remembered him mentioning how he hated lying to me, upsetting me, hurting me or shouting at me for no real reason. He continued on by saying it hurt him to see me in the state I was in today when I found out he was going to leave me alone for yet another one of his eerie trips.
The best part though was when he told the funny looking guy on the big screen that he would not be able to play his usual disappearing charade for long as I wasn't stupid and will eventually find out everything. Carefully listening to his every word, I was beyond happy and flattered to know my father thought really highly of me. That he noticed I was not an average child and was way more intelligent than kids my age but also that he loved me so much, he was ready to sacrifice his work.
Too scared my father would see me and stop whatever he was doing, I stood still, not daring to move the slightest bit. I was so immense in their conversation, fascination coursing through me that I didn't want to interrupt them at any point. I'll admit I was shocked at first, but after wrapping my mind around the fact that my father was a secret agent who goes on several real adventures to save the world, I was excited.
