The next hours were a blurr. Elise sat curled up in a corner with a blanket around her shoulders. She didn't have the energy to move and the only people she would let near without lashing out at was Laddie and Lucy.

Lucy watched the little boy approached the tired teen. He had been surprisingly resourceful with ways to get her to eat and drink. She was relieved that her and her sons hadn't been turned into vampires but watching a young girl grieve the loss of her soulmates (she had forced the boys to explain everything to her) was tearing at her motherly instincts.

Laddie used every trick he could to get Elise to eat. Most of them was from back when all the food she could find went to him. Back when she had been his only safety.

Star and Michael knew they had messed up. Lucy had outright told them that they went about things the wrong way. That they should have gathered more information. Laddie wouldn't talk to them and if Star tried to touch him, even if it was just his shoulder he would give her the most hateful glare before hiding beside Elise. Who knew a child could have such a hateful glare?

Laddie hands me another piece of sandwich and i eat it. My stomach feels empty, although I'm hungry it isn't the kind of hunger like when i was a half vampire.

The strings that hold on to the parts of me that feels broken refuse to let go. Refuse to let me break and right now i'm so incredibly thankful for it.

"I'm supposed to be protecting you bud.."

Laddie looks up at me. "You can't be strong all the time. Sometimes you need help too."

When sundown came Elise felt alive again, at least a little and while Laddie slept she moved out onto the porch.

"It's quite warm outside isn't it?" Lucy put down a mug of hot cocoa that she made for Elise. "I see you moved from your corner. How are you feeling?"

"I feel.... fragile. Like my world has been smashed to pieces." Elise didn't turn to look at her.

Lucy took a seat on the other chair. "Would you like to talk about it?" The teen shook her head. "I don't know if it's any consolation, i don't know much about vampires so I'm not sure if it's normal, but the other vampires bodies disappeared. I heard Sam's friends talk about it and figured they wouldn't tell you." Lucy had noticed her son's new friends distrust towards her and had realized that the chance she would receive the information was very small.

Elise stared at her, mouth agape. "Disappeared?" At the nod she received her heart skipped a beat. Could it be....?
