Piper recognized the detective's face from the papers whenever they stopped in a specific town every couple weeks. He's cracked the cases of different robberies, with no help what-so-ever.

Her stomach twisted uncomfortably.

With a poke into Aaron's side, she got his attention. He had been joking with Vic about Charlie Sheen and some other famous actor. Piper really didn't care enough to bother listening.

Inconspicuously, she gestured toward the detective who was now gazing around the small diner. Her heart clenched when his eyes fell upon her and the boys' table. Vic made a comment and she felt Aaron's leg jerk to kick him under the table.

Her throat tightened, becoming dry and scathed.

What if he comes over here? She wondered. What if all we've worked for, suddenly goes down the drain?

As if he could read her mind, or better yet, register the panic in her eyes, he sauntered over to their table without a care in the world.

Piper was able to get a good look at him as he approached. He had a light  5 o'clock shadow and green eyes. His hair was a dark brown color with lighter natural hightlights that strung through it, making it seem like beautiful brown waves.

He was obviously dead set on approaching the three teens' table and stood in front of it suspectingly. Aaron held Piper's hand a little lighter, attempting to comfort her when she was already panicking.

"Hey there. My name is Detective Andrews, and I was wondering if I could speak to you three for a few moments?" He asked. Vic crossed his arms, sizing the detective up. Piper rolled her eyes.

Victor was actually pretty manly. What with his big blue eyes and blonde hair, he was fairly attractive, not to mention his large biceps and rock hard abdominals. If it weren't for Aaron capturing her heart, she probably would have tried to get to know Vic first.

"Of course, won't you join us detective?" Piper asked. She scooted along the booth a little further, shoving Aaron and Vic into the opposite side. They grunted as they squished together to make room.

Piper sent them both warning glances and sat straighter.

The detective had been watching them with a wary eye, trying to read their emotions. Piper forced herself to relax, and thinking of The Beatles helped a little in her nerves. It was just a weird habit she had picked up.

"I'm Piper." She gestured to herself and then pointed towards Aaron and Vic. "These two idiots, are Aaron and Victor. He prefers Vic." She stated. Detective Andrews stuck out his hand and shook all three of theirs.

"I hate to intrude on your little outing, but we seemed to have experienced a small problem this evening and since you three have been travelling through this town, we were wondering if you had seen anything suspiscious?" The detective asked.

Piper smiled.

"Of course, we understand. I'm afraid we haven't noticed anything of the sort. But may we ask what the problem was?" She asked. Aaron patted her knee softly, feeling her fear about revealing too much to the detective. Vic stayed silent, only nodding every few moments.

"There was a robbery downtown just on the other side of the Interstate. Federal Credit Union. Three culprits drove off in a silver Dodge Stratus. They claimed about eight hundred thousand dollars give or take a hundred grand." The detective shared.

Piper could tell that Vic was holding back a guilty grin from the way he was biting his lip.

"That's horrible! I sure hope they catch the robbers soon." Piper feigned innocence and mock horror. She was smug enough to feel proud that she had stashed eight hundred grand. That would last them about two to three months, leaving them plenty of time to skip town and be on the other side of the country before risking the possibility of being caught.

"We are working on that right now." Detective Andrews said harshly. Piper nodded.

"What exactly does this have to do with us?" Aaron asked. Detective Andrews smiled.

"I'm pleased that you asked. You see, the three bank robbers have been rumored to be the three missing foster children from Washington." He said. Aaron looked perplexed.

"You mean the three that ran away and robbed the first bank they saw and got off with seven hundred grand?" He asked.

Piper couldn't believe how dead on Mr. Andrews had been. Little did he know, though.

"Yes. Kelly Mitch, Brent Torks, and Michael Reeds. They've been missing for the last two years, but our sources say they've been spotted just north of New Mexico about four days ago. I thought I would take it upon myself to discuss with you guys, what would make three teens run away and rob a bank." He folded his hands in front of him and Piper swallowed the building saliva in her mouth.

He knew, she thought, oh my God, he knew. Piper's heart began to beat faster and faster in her chest until she worried she'd go into cardiac arrest.

"Money." Vic said.

"Fame." Aaron stated.

"Security." Piper concluded.

"Why would they need security?" The detective asked. Piper shrugged.

"Maybe the foster home wasn't as great as every one thought." She said.

"I see. But if you were to run away, where would you go and what would you do?" Andrews asked. Piper thought for a moment.

"I would change my name and go into hiding probably up north in the summer." She said. The detective seemed impressed.

"And why is that?" He asked. Piper frowned at the detective.

"They ask less questions." even though it was sort of a lie, she maintained a straight face. The detective nodded and looked up as the waitress arrived with their milkshakes.

"Thanks." Vic said silently to the server. Piper grasped her milkshake but felt too nervous to eat. So she watched as the strawberry ice cream slowly began to melt.

The detective sighed.

"Well, that's all the questions I have. Here's my card, if you have more information for me." the detective handed Piper a slip of paper and with a wink in her direction, he stood and left the diner as quickly as he came.

"Well, that was weird." Vic said. Piper let out a nervous laugh.

Richard wiped the dripping sweat from his forehead, gazing down at the obscure letter that had been slipped under his door step.

He nervously loosened his tie, feeling all the more claustrophobic.

"What is it, Richard?" Angelo asked. Richard turned to face Angelo.

Angelo had a glower plasterred on his face, his hands folded expectantly in front of him. Red faced and nervous, Richard swallowed.

"They found them, Sir." Richard choked out. Angelo leaned back in his large, regal chair and tapped his fingernails across the large oak desk in front of him.

With a crooked smile, Angelo chuckled.

"Well I suppose we'll just have to make a short visit..."
