Aaron stood by the exit of the cafeteria, checking his watch again. It was chilly outside, a soft breeze caressing his skin lightly, causing goosebumps to arise on his arms. Birds chirped in the trees around him and the sun peaked through the overcasting clouds.
His day hadn't exactly gone according to plan. Playing the average "high school student" had him on edge constantly, and wary to speak with anyone. Deep in the recesses of his mind he knew that if he didn't make conversation with someone soon, his facade would slip ever so slightly. He checked his watch again, almost robotically.
Lunch had started about ten minutes ago throughout the school and Aaron wondered where Vic and Piper could possibly be. They had all agreed to meet just outside the cafeteria, had they not?
The large door off to his left swished and he sighed, turning to face the door in relief.
"I seriously thought you guys weren't coming! I thought something had happen-" His words ceased abruptly when he caught sight of a pretty little brunette with emerald colored eyes. He stood straighter, confused and rather unsettled.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone was out here. I'll just go back inside and-" Aaron waved it off.
"Uh, it's really no big deal. You just caught me by surprise, that's all. I'm Aaron." He stuck out his right hand and gave the girl a reasurring smile.
"I'm Mixie." She replied, shaking his hand with a firm grip. Aaron looked her up and down, taking in her boot cut jeans and flannel shirt. She was supposedly your typical small town country girl.
"Mixie huh? That's an interesting name." Aaron noted. Mixie shrugged.
"A name's, a name. It gets the job done." She said nonchalantly. Aaron paused, thinking over her words and nodding.
"That is very true," He brushed his hair out of his eyes and leaned back against the wall of the school building, feeling the cool concrete press against his shoulder as he did so. "So what are you doing out here, Mixie?" He asked. Mixie smiled.
"I usually come out here to get away from all the roudy students. Their loud shouting and talking gives me a headache. And forget the teacher's lounge or classrooms, they're just as bad." Mixie shrugged and leaned against the wall next to Aaron.
Aaron nodded, oblivious to Mixie's close proximity.
"I'm not real big on conversing with other students, either." He agreed. The green grass at his feet swayed with the wind as each gust cascaded over the school. Aaron wished he had his sketch book. He missed art so much, having not drawn anything since he, Piper and Vic all hit the road on their get-rich-quick conquests.
"They never have anything interesting to talk about. It's all mindless chatter." Mixie added. Aaron nodded in agreement until laughter on the other side of the door caught his attention. The heavy exit door opened and Piper and Vic stepped out, hugging trays against their stomachs with food on them.
Aaron pushed off the wall and stood next to Piper, wrapping an arm around her waist and kissing her on the cheek. She continued to laugh at Vic, who was trying to take care of the noodle hanging from his nose.
"I have no idea how you managed that! Who gets a noodle stuck in their nose?" Piper asked with a chuckle. Aaron glanced at the tall beefy blonde and chuckled too.
"How the hell do I know? I just swallowed a noodle, you said something funny, and next thing I know, it's dangling from my nose! It's all your fault Piper!" He accused, pulling the noodle out of his nose and tossing it onto the ground with disgust.
"I'm pretty sure I just took 'noodle brain' to an all new level." Vic said with a scowl at the tray in his hands.
Piper laughed again. She looked up at Aaron when a movement to her left caught her eye and she noticed a smaller brunette with green eyes watchig the trio uncomfortably. Piper elbowed Aaron in the ribs.
