Dad: Hi love, I miss you.
Me: Hello, miss you too.
Dad: How was your day?
Me: It was somewhat good. You?
Dad: That's what I was asking you, kind of.
---------
Dad: Just too much pain to enjoy anything lately, I guess. Read any good books lately?
Me: Nope, I've gone through all the books in the library, nothing they have intrigues me.
Dad: What do you listen to these days?
Me: Louis Armstrong, Alan Silvestri, Gerry Mulligan, mostly instruments.
Dad: I really like your taste in music! See if there are any Truman Capote books at the school library.
Me: It better not kill ya.
Dad: What's that, love?
Me: Whatever you're in pain with.
Dad: It would be simpler if it were just one thing, but there's so many problems at once it's hard to get well.
Me: I see.
Dad: All I like to do anymore is sleep and eat fruit. Weiiird huh?
Me: I do that when I get home, I just devoured the last pear Mom bought, which also marked the end of our remaining fruit.
Dad: I really miss you and your brother ad now regret not having made the most of that golden time we had together.
Me: Yeah, there was always some lame excuse or that Splinter Cell was too cool not to play.
Dad: Lanzones are nearing the end of their season now. They've become one of my favorites.
Me: Those brown little things? I've been eating a lot of dragon fruit lately.
Dad: Well, next time we're together we'll really make the most of it, for sure! They're expensive but good! Sandy has been getting some of the rare tropical fruit from the forest, which has been an adventure.
Me: You won't come to my graduation, will you?
-----------------
Me: Forget I asked, what's everyone up to?
Dad: There is no force of nature other than death that will keep me away.
Me: I get it, you can't stay away from coconuts or whatever that mystical fruit is. I got that.
Dad: The boys are very into classic Xbox since the cable went out. I'm just missing my daughter a lot these days.
Me: I know, it doesn't feel the same. Going to the theater alone, going to games alone.
Dad: Although, I do drink a lot of coconut water to aid kidney function.
Me: That's good.
Dad: You have so much more to choose from there, in terms of all sorts of things.
Me: But I rarely have anyone to do it with.
Dad: I thought you have quite a few amigos there?
Me: Yeah sure. Boys, they aren't half-bad. My best friend isn't free a lot and the rest are either boring or too busy.
Dad: Well, that's life. Just don't allow that to lower your standards!
Me: I don't, they're better company. Less drama.
Dad: Once you're older, you'll realize you already knew who best friends are!
Me: I do, and I know, Dad.
Dad: That's my girl! Just don't ever forget, ok?
Me: Okay, I'm going to eat. Don't die, okay?
Dad: Working on it. Talk later, love.
Me: Okay, Dad. Love you.
