Carol woke up the next morning with a headache. She couldn't help but overhear the talk her friend was having downstairs. She went to sleep trying to figure out why Meghan had reacted the way she did. Harry always talked about her like a fun and loving woman. But last night she had been a total bitch and Carol didn't even know why. If she was in Brazil, she'd started an argument with her. But she couldn't do that in London, at Harry's house while being his guest. But the thing is, Carol was uncomfortable to stay in the Cottage after that. Harry and Meghan wasn't the tight and happy couple her friend was telling her for the last months, something was wrong with them and she wanted to know what and why. But she didn't want to ask. Whenever she dated, she never liked when people started asking too many questions, so she decided to respect her friend and only make sure he could tell her anything. She'd be there to listen.
Harry barely slept at night. He was dreading getting out of his bedroom. Carol was smart enough to notice something was wrong. And Meghan probably had spent the last night thinking of ways to make his life a living hell. But he got up anyway, he took a shower in his en suite and got ready for the day. When he opened his door to go to the kitchen, Carol was opening hers as well.
"Morning." she said looking at him.
"Morning, Carol.", he looked and went to her. "You slept well?"
"I did.", she offered a shy smile. "You?"
"Barely slept.", he answered just above a whisper. "I'm sorry for last night."
"There's nothing to apologize for." she touched his hand.
"There is. Meghan was a total bitch to you last night."
"Well... Is she like that with everyone or I was the only one awarded?" they laughed a bit.
"I haven't been completely honest with you, Carol.", Harry said after a while. "But I can only stomach this conversation after breakfast. Let's eat, shall we?"
"Where is she?", Carol asked walking down the stairs.
"I don't know. And to be honest I don't really care." he said and entered the kitchen to sit on one of the stools on the counter. She sat beside him and they started breakfast in silence. Carol studied her friend and he looked distressed. He wasn't in his cheerful self of the past three days. But she respected his need to be in silence.
After they finished, Martha showed up and quickly cleaned everything and left. Harry suddenly got up and went to the front door. He put on his coat and got hers, Carol simply followed and let him dress her.
"Come on, let's have a walk."
She put her hands inside her pocket and walked beside him. That was the first time that she really appreciated the grandeur of the palace. It was all like a dream. She was beside Harry, in a Palace and she had the honor of calling him a friend. Harry walked straight to another part of the building. To be honest, it was like crossing the street. He found someone from the staff and got a set of keys. He waited for her to be beside him and opened the doors. He was taking her to another part of the palace. To her it looked like an office, but that place was a huge one. She saw that it was empty and waited for him to lead the way he wanted to take. He took a few turns and climbed the marble stairs and walked around a huge corridor. He opened one of the doors and entered the room, Carol followed and saw Harry sitting on a window bench, for that room was completely empty. She sat beside him, crossing her legs beneath her.
"This is my room.", he said after a while staring to the window.
"I thought your room was the one closer to mine..."
