Liam’s POV

My phone rang, waking Rebekah and me up. I let it ring.

“Are you going to pick it up, or is it just going to annoy me?” she asked.

I picked it up. “Hello?”

It was Louis.

“Can you come over?” great. He wanted me to come over. Just when he was off of my mind, he found some way to get back on it. For some reason, I had butterflies in my stomach.

“Sure.” I answered. We said our goodbyes and I looked at Rebekah.

“You have a serious problem with staring, Payne?” her and her sarcasm.

“Only when it comes to you.” she smiled at me.

“That was one smooth line.” She rested her head back on my chest.

“No more cuddling! We’ve got places to go, people to see!” I yelled. She jumped as if I screamed it in her ear.  I may have said it too loud.

“Fine.” She mumbled. She got up. I could tell she was annoyed. “Where are we going?”

“Over to Louis and Harry’s flat.” I told her.

“Harry, he the curly haired one?” she asked. I nodded.

We headed over to the flat silently. Our hands brushed, but it wasn’t awkward. We both had huge smiles on our faces. I could tell that she was blushing when our bodies made contact.

When we arrived,. I knocked on the door. Harry opened it.

“Liam and… a girl I never met before!” harry smiled.

“I’m Rebekah! “ she said cheerfully.

“Hello.” I could tell he was happy to meet her, but he said like he was in pain.

I saw Louis pop out from the kitchen. His welcoming smile turned into a frown when he saw Rebekah.

“Liam.” As he greeted me I could tell that there was still some tension between us. When he said my name, I instantly got butterflies.

“Can we talk?” now he wants talk to me alone. My life just kept getting easier and easier. I nodded, though I just wanted to run away.

I followed him to his room. He opened the door letting me in.

I sat down on his bed. He just looked at me.

“Look, Liam. About last night.” He began

“It was just a mistake. No worries.” I said.

As I said that, I could swear I saw hurt flash through his eyes. I thought I saw tears, but it could’ve just been the lighting.

“Yeah. It meant nothing.” He agreed.

Louis’s POV

It didn’t mean anything. I was a mistake. No, it wasn’t a mistake.

“Can I go now?” Liam asked. I nodded. I didn’t want him to leave, but I knew he would never love me the way I loved him.

“It wasn’t a mistake.” I said as he grabbed the door knob.

“What?” he said, still facing the door.

“I said it wasn’t a mistake.” I looked at the ground.

“Lou, you were drunk. It happens-“ he began, but I cut him off.

“I wasn’t drunk. I remember everything from that night.” I admitted. Liam looked shocked.

“If this is some kind of joke, it isn’t funny.” He said, living up to the nick name Daddy Direction.

“Of course you’d think this is a joke! I can be serious too. I’m not all fun and games!” I yelled. I hated to yell at him, but he didn’t realize that I was serious.

“You wanted to sleep with me.” he stated. “Are you gay?” he asked, clearly surprised at my outburst.

“No. I like girls too. I just really like you.” I sighed.

“I like you too.” Liam said. I smiled. “You’re my best friend.”

Friend. That’s all I’ll ever be.

“Friend.” I said. He touched my shoulder. My heart ran a mile a minute.

“Best friend.” He corrected.  I just wanted to cry.

“Who is she?”

Liam looked at me. “Rebekah? I just met her today.”

“So you just kiss her when you just met her?” Louis, why did you say that? You just got pulled into an endless black hole.

“I didn’t… you walked in on us?” Liam questioned.

“I don’t like her.” I really didn’t.

“You don’t even know her.” He defended.

“She’s a slut.” I said.

“You don’t even know here. Stop judging people. She is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. She can be funny too.”  Liam explained

“I’m not letting that whore take you take you away from me! I’ve waited too long for you to be single.” I yelled, letting tears of frustration fill my eyes.

“She doesn’t even know you!” he yelled. Honestly, I loved when he got mad. He was so…  Louis stop it!

“No girl plays tonsil tennis with a guy she just met!” I yelled. He stared at me in disbelief.

“Louis, what are you trying to say?” he asked me. I just looked at him.

“What are you trying to say?” he repeated. I stayed silent.

“You know what? I don’t care what you have to say anymore. If it makes you happy, I’ll just leave you alone. You can forget I even existed!” he shouted and slammed my door as he left.

Tears began to fill my eyes. I threw myself onto my bed and sobbed in my pillow. I was supposed to let Liam know how I felt about him. Instead, now he hated me.

I wanted to just die. If the person I loved didn’t love me back, what’s the use in trying to be happy?
