Mavis didn't sleep, she couldn't-quite literally. She perched on the coarse cotton sheets and stared around talking to Charlie quietly.

"Charli, who are these people?" She whispered, careful not to wake Aislinn.

Filthy people. Scum. Probably involved in illegal business. But they do cook a nice dinner. Charli replied tensely. Mavis, I don't like it here.

"Charli, I don't either, but i can't leave Aislinn behind. She's too naive to be in the real world." Mavis whispered

Two things, Mavis. One, you're right, but I can't let you be sold for a profit. Two, why don't you just tele-communicate with me?

"Tele-Communicate?" Mavis repeated.

Just direct your thoughts at me. Charli coaxed

Fine! Omigosh, i'm actually doing it. Mavis though, shocked.

Yes. Okay, dear. Lesson time listen up. Summoning. Charli said with authority

Summoning? You can't be serious. Mavis though skeptically

Dead serious. Now focus your thoughts onto something, focus your subconsious. Focus. Focus! Charli meowed

Mavis' face crumpled with strain, her eyes turned liquid gold behind her closed eyelids-dusted with gold leaf makeup. Finally, she gasped, her eyes flew open.

"It's coming." She whispered. "I don't know what I summoned though, Charli." Worry etched her voice.

I'll smell it when it comes close. Charli assured. I think unless you summoned a dragon, we'll be fine.

For a few moments they sat there, listening to Aislinn's breath, waiting for Charli to scent something.

Oh sweet Vania... Charli mewed out loud, his eyes wide with fear.

"What? What did I summon?" Mavis asked, a pit in her stomach growing, consuming herself from the inside.
