The building was quiet aside from the low hum of machinery and generators. The walls and floor were white and clean. Tables lined the room with breakers and viles full of strange liquids. As Brennen and Emily walked into the lab, Brennen saw his parents. "Hey Mom, hey Dad" Brennen greeted his parents. "Hi son, hi Emily" Brennen's dad greeted them with a smile. "This place is very nice Mr. And Mrs. Dak, I've never seen anything so clean and organized" Emily said, admiring how well kept the lab was. "Thank you Emily, we try to keep everything organized so that we can find everything easier, and a clean working place is a safe working place" Brennen's Mom replied. "I just wish Brennen kept his room this nice and clean" Brennen's Dad replied, laughing a little. Emily also started to giggle at the joke which made Brennen blush out of embarrassment. "It's not that bad Dad" Brennen replied. "Yes son you are right, it's not that bad, world war II wasn't that bad, your room is much worse" Brennen's Dad replied with a laugh and Brennen's Mom as well as Emily laughed with him making Brennen blush out of embarrassment even more. It was bad enough his parents were laughing at him, that he could take, but Emily was his best friend since first grade and he had to admit he had developed a bit of a crush on her over the years they spent together, this ment Brennen had to change the subject, and fast. "Hey Dad, why don't you and Mom show us the new thing you were telling me you recently discovered" Brennen replied, desperately trying to change the subject before it got any worse. "Oh that's right, good idea son" Brennen's Dad said as he started to lead them to another part of the lab where a huge vat of a shadowy liquid was unmoving and still in it. "We call it Shadow Matter, it's unlike anything we have ever seen, we still don't know the affects of it yet but that's why we are keeping it here to study" Brennen's Dad explained to Brennen and Emily. As they got near the vat of shadow matter Brennen started to feel wierd, like the wierd new substance was calling out to him, and then it happened he heard the whisper from before, loud and clear this time. "Brennen Dak, are you ready to find out who you were destined to be" the voice called out, seemingly emanating from the vat of shadow matter itself. "Who's there!" Brennen called out looking around at his surroundings, looking for the voices location. "Um Brennen, there is nobody else here" Emily said, worried about her friend. The voice called out again. "Don't you hear that" Brennen said. "Son we don't hear anything" Brennen's Dad responded. As Brennen looked around he saw a mysterious shadow on a walkway by the vat of shadow matter. "There he is" Brennen respond going up the stairs to the walkway. As Brennen neared the shadow it disappeared once Brennen got to the shadow matter. "Where did he go, he was right here" Brennen said as the walkway started to shake and it caused Brennen to fall into the vat of shadow matter. "BRENNEN!!!" all three of them shouted out, worried for what was going to happen to Brennen. In the shadow matter, Brennen heard the cries of both his parents and Emily and then, silence, as Brennen drifted off and woke up in the forest he saw in his dreams, the only difference was there was the shadow, only he was now a man with a black beared and a purple cloak. "Welcome Brennen, Shall we begin" the man said, as Brennen looked around at his surroundings.
