She wanted to arrive at least 5 minutes before him, she needed those moments to prepare, but the universe obviously didn't want her to. As soon as Yue and Mei arrived, the nurse called asking Yue to check on a patient recovering from surgery who had a high fever during the night. They ended up talking about other cases and now she was running late for the appointment.
Yue ran for the elevator and used the inside mirror to try and comb her hair. After a few attempts, she just gave up and hoped he didn't notice how startled she looked. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes were big and her palms were sweating.
A couple of floors later, the elevator opened and the last wall of protection was no longer there. The moment she stepped out, she saw him at the other end of the corridor. Everything else in the room seemed to fade to black and all she could see were his eyes.
He was wearing a black sweatshirt, his earrings were gone and his hair was all over the place. He looked at her so intensely, like he was seeing a ghost. And even with his pale complexion and the look that screamed he also hand't gotten that much sleep, he looked flawless.
Was he also thinking about us? She wondered about his lack of sleep. Then she moved her eyes to his immobilised shoulder and slapped herself mentally. Of course he hadn't slept, he was in a lot of pain. She then took notice of his best friend beside him and gave a slight nod to greet him while she offered her hand to him.
"Hello, Mr Wang. Can you accompany me to my office, please?"
Yue was waiting for Dylan to shake her hand back but he just seemed too lost in thought.
"Didi" Li Zi elbowed him and gestured towards Shen Yue.
"Oh, sorry, yes yes, let's go" He replied and proceed to shake her hand.
Both of them were taken aback by the electricity present in that handshake alone. The encounter of their sweaty palms sent shivers down their spines and suddenly it was just the two of them on their treehouse 15 years ago.
Mei and Li Zi were watching everything from afar and the assistant was getting more and more intrigued by the minute. Out of nowhere, the office phone rang and the spell was broken. Dylan and Yue broke apart and were now very aware of where they were, and who they were with.
"P-please, let's get in." She gestured for both of them to come in.
Dylan took the front and when Li Zi motioned as if he was going to enter with them, he received a death glare from his best friend.
"It's fine" he said shakily "I'll just wait for Didi here"
Yue's heart began to race another 10k inside her chest, but she managed to take a deep breath and reply with a short 'ok' before entering and closing the office door.
And then suddenly they were alone.

She sat behind the desk and tried not to look at his eyes.
"Mr Wang, please sit, Can you tell me what happened to you? I got your exams from the Chicago doctor but I want to hear from y..."
"Please call me Dylan" He cut her off while sitting across her.
"It's really weird you calling me Mr Wang, I feel like my dad is behind me or something" Didi tried to joke but failed miserably when he noticed her expression.
"It's not really professional..." She tried to argue and looked down at her desk. "I don't go around calling all my patients by their first name"
"C'mon, Yue, it's me." He grabbed her hand with his free one. "Don't you think it's weird to call me Mr?"
She glanced at their hands together and quickly pulled hers from his touch, while giving him a fake smile and replying "Yes, you're right!"
"But not in front of my assistant" Yue added shyly "She'll never let me hear the end of it if she sees me calling you Dylan"
She looked at him with her pink cheeks and there it was. Right there on her eyes he saw a glimpse of the old Yue, who would keep secrets with him and would help him sneak out of his house in the middle of the night to swim at the lake. He knew she hadn't forgotten, all the memories were right there hanging between them.
"What, she doesn't know about us?" He teased and smiled playfully. But immediately regretted saying it when he saw her whole body tense.
"There's no 'us' to know about." She replied coldly. "Now please let's begin your appointment or I won't have time to check on your shoulder"
And just like that the moment was gone. He knew it was no use to bring it up again for now.

She couldn't believe he had the nerve to say that. He crossed the freaking line. No, they both did. They had almost gone too far. Roaming dangerously close to that place again. The place where their memories stayed hidden from view. Her head felt dizzy and she almost forgot to breathe when he grabbed her hand back then.
But she couldn't let that happen. She had to collect herself.
The rest of the appointment went by and Dylan didn't try to invade her personal space again. They talked about his level of pain, how much strain he was putting on his tendon during trainings and games and eventually it was time for her to examine him.
"Now I need to check your shoulder" She got up and gestured for him to sin on the hospital bed.
He did as she told and unzipped his sweatshirt to let her see the injured part.
"Can I remove the splint? It's gonna hurt a little" She explained
"It's okay, go ahead"
Yue carefully took away the splint and manoeuvred his shoulder very slowly to see how much movement he had lost. She knew he was in a lot of pain, but his strength never faltered and he let her roam her hands freely.
She on the other hand was suffering from a different kind of pain.
The office was cold but her fingertips were burning from the touch of his skin. His creamy milk skin was tense to the touch and she felt him shiver when she got too close to his neck line. She stepped even closer and sucked her breath in when she caught a glimpse of a necklace inside his shirt.
"...Is that?" She couldn't help but ask. "No way!"
He realised was she was looking at and blushed violently. She looked at his face trying to figure out why he still had it. They weren't even friends anymore, they were strangers. Why would he keep it that long?
"It's nothing" He replied while trying to hide the necklace further inside the shirt.
She didn't believe it for a second.
"I saw it Dylan" She stated matter of factly. "Is that my necklace?"
