"Dylan, bro, you're alarmingly quiet and this silence thing is creeping me out" Li Zi complained for the tenth time during their flight.
"Sorry, man, I know I haven't been the best companion so far" he sighed after that.
They left the hospital in such a blur that none of them even noticed how fast things happened after that. The worried meeting with Dylan's agent, the stressful phone call with the team's doctor and the arrangements for the trip back to Shanghai. All of it passed as if it was nothing. Thank God his best friend was there to rescue him.
The doctor in Chicago had immobilised his shoulder to prevent him from aggravating the injury during the flight. He was unable to move freely, but, his thoughts were free to race around his head. As well as his heart, who was pounding the entire flight thinking about everything.
"It's just too much to wrap my head around" Didi continued.
"I know, you twat, but that's what friends are for. You have to talk to me! You asked me to make all these crazy calls and shit but you still haven't answered my question in the first place..." He paused carefully. "Is this THE Shen Yue? From high school?"
Shit, just hearing him say her name out loud makes it more real than ever. He cursed. Dylan took a long sip of water and looked straight into his friend's eyes.
"The one and only" He forced himself to speak.
"Well, fuck..." was the only reply Li Zi managed to say.
Acknowledging the truth to his best friend, who also happened to know her, sent shivers down his spine. How was this happening? Yesterday he was leaving home for a very exciting game, dreading the unwanted female attention he'd probably get at the after party, and now he was here, just a few hours away from seeing her. A few miles away from those gentle eyes he thought he'd never see again.

Yue was waiting for Mei in front of her building. The air was slightly cold that morning and it carried something more with it, she could feel it. She braced herself and wrapped her coat around her tightly. She really wished she could've rested more. I did manage to take a nap last night, though. She thought. If you can call a few hours of rolling around on the bed and complaining to the universe about fate, a nap.
Her assistant's car parked and she honked to get Yue's attention.
"Good morning! Welcome aboard, your highness" Mei playfully greeted her when she entered the car.
"Ugh, good morning to who?" She replied in a scolding tone and closed the car door.
"I see the princess' mood is a bit shaken this morning. What's going on?" The red headed girl asked.
"The princess prefers to have coffee before giving away vital information" She gave in and played along with her friend.
"Ok, coffee it is then" Mei said and turned up the volume of the stereo as they headed to the coffee shop near the hospital.
Yue looked out the window, thankful she wouldn't have to fill the silence just yet. It was all gonna be alright if she could keep pretending it was just a normal day with normal patients to see. At least that was her best friend's advice that morning.
Xiao You had replied her text at 07am with a long voice message. Something along the lines of "Stay above this. You have nothing to hide from him, he's the one who should be nervous about meeting you, not the other way around, He's the narcissistic player who has a different girl on his arm every week..." and so on.
She knew those were the words of a protective, and right, best friend! But she couldn't help but feel anxious about seeing him again after all this time. Was his smile the same? with the half dimple and those pink lips? Was his hair still longer in the front, lingering in front of his eyes when he laughed?
She stopped herself when she saw the hospital in front of her. She had to control this madness before she saw him. After all, she was a professional. And they didn't even know each other anymore.

"Of course the elevator is taking ages" Dylan blurted out while waiting in the lobby.
Li Zi just nodded and tried not to aggravate the mood of the already pissed boy. When they arrived at the airport, a bunch of girls were waiting for him and he just simply ignored them and headed towards the car. That alone was a yellow flag. Dylan was not like this at all. He would stop and take pictures, ask them how they were, and take some more pictures before he would even consider leaving.
Upon arriving at the hospital, he almost shrieked when the front desk girl thought he was more injured and offered him a wheelchair. He left her with no response and just stomped through the crowd of patients until he reached the elevator. Li Zi had to try really hard not to laugh at this one though.
After what it seemed like an era, the elevator arrived and they entered.
"What floor?"asked the nurse who was near the buttons.
"5th"replied Didi and Li Zi at the same time. She pressed the button and they began to ascend.
When the doors finally opened, they reached a very calm reception with an auburn haired young woman behind a desk. Dylan cleared his throat and approached the desk.
"Hello, we're here to see She--- Doctor Shen Yue, please."
"Oh, good morning, Mr Wang. We were waiting for you. Can you please fill this form before the appointment? Doctor will be here in a second"
Dylan was about to thank her and grab the form when he saw her exit the elevator on the other end of the floor.
Her hair was a few inches shorter than he remembered and a bit darker too. But it was her eyes who held the most drastic change of all. They were somewhat bolder, sharper and fiercer. She'd lost that innocent aura he once knew. But, it still felt right. It was still her.
She had high heeled boots on and her stilettos clicked when she came down the hallway and stopped right in front of them. She offered her hand, just like all those years before, and spoke softly.
"Hello, Mr Wang. Can you accompany me to my office, please?"
