"It's nothing" He replied while trying to hide the necklace.

"I saw it Dylan" She stated matter of factly. "Is that my necklace?"

Yue tried to pull the necklace from inside his shirt but Dylan took one of her wrists to stop her from reaching it. She tried to escape and fool him so that she could get it with the other hand, but, when he tried to stop her with his injured arm, they lost their balance and fell back on the bed with a thump.

"Ouch, Yue" he complained "Get up, You're pressing my arm!"

She became crimson all over and quickly got up from the bed.

"So-Sorry, Dylan, I just wanted to see if--Never mind"

He sighed when he saw her face fall. Why couldn't he just give her that tiny piece of joy when they shared so much joy in the past?

"Here, help me sit" Dylan asked with a soft voice.

The doctor offered her hand for balance and he got up. Then, she carefully immobilised his shoulder with the splint to help ease the pain. When he was comfortably settled again, he bit his lip and pulled the necklace out of his shirt. Yue gasped at the sight.

"It's been with me for almost 10 years, now. Sometimes I forget that's even here because it's already become an extension of my body" Dylan began

"I forgot to take it off because I was so restless on the way here. I didn't mean to leave it on purpose to upset you, or anything, It's just here. It's never left"

She moved closer to him, taking the pendant and flipping it on her hands. The coldness of the metal assuring her this was real.

"How come I've never seen you with it in photoshoots or interviews?" Yue blurted out and cursed herself when she realised what she had just said. She had just admitted out loud that she searched for photos and news of him.

For the sake of her sanity, he made no comment about that. But she saw a tiny glimpse of a smile appear on the corner of his lips.

"They make me take it off for pics, because they think is too girly. But it's always been with me. Ever since you left it behind."

Suddenly she became very conscious of their closeness. She could feel everything maximised: His warm breath against her face, the hoarseness of his voice and the electric waves his skin was sending her way.

Yue looked up and met his eyes. Dylan slowly removed a streak of hair from her cheek and left his hand there. Both heartbeats were out of control now and the oxygen in the room seemed to be running out.

Then, the extension on her desk buzzed and they quickly broke apart.

"Doctor, your next appointment is in 15minutes" Mei's voice echoed in the room.

She cleared her throat and went to her desk, pressing the button to reply "Ok, thanks, Mei"

When she looked up, Dylan hiding the piece of jewellery inside.

"So, I think we should do your surgery right away. You're clearly in a lot of pain and you've already endured some tough days." She said while turning on her computer and looking for the calendar app.

He stared at her trying to hide a smile remembering what had just happened. There it was, the professional Yue was back on the scene.

"It's ok, It's not like I have anything else to do, anyway" he joked
