"Carmen!" The door was thrown open by my mother who sounded angry but looked worried.

"That is the third day I've heard shuffling from your room all night." Her voice was stern but quiet.

I lifted my head up from the book it was resting on.

"No mum, I've slept. Don't worry about it,"

"Don't try that with me young lady, you and I both know that you haven't had an hours sleep these past three days," she came into the room, " I'm worried about you baby."

One look at my mum was all it took for me to burst into tears.

"I tried mum, I tried," my voice was brittle. A hoarse whisper.
