Link hadn't been awake for too terribly long.
Just long enough to gain a partner in Kakariko Village and experience his first 3 Blood Moons.
Compared to 100 years of sleep, being awake for almost 4 months didn't really mean much.
His partner, a mysterious girl named (Y/n), went away every Blood Moon, claiming she had something important to do.
She'd leave before the Moon even came out of the blood colored clouds and return around sunrise.
And, no matter where they were, she'd help make camp and then leave. And if they were intending to travel through the night, she'd force them to stop as soon as her (e/c) eyes connected with the deep red of the dark clouds.
Link never questioned. It clearly wasn't a topic she wanted to talk about. But he always insisted on patching her up when she came back.
Wherever she went, she always got hurt. Very hurt. More often than not, she'd come back limping, grasping at various areas of her body.
And, just to his luck, there was a Blood Moon.
The night he was planning on confessing his ever-growing feelings for the mysterious, yet utterly stunning girl.
(Y/n) finished setting up her sleeping back, looking over at Link who was doing the same. Every night, he seemed to come half an inch closer to her. At first, she couldn't tell. But Link had no idea, since she never mentioned it when they spoke.
Even though they spoke about almost everything.
Her dazzling (e/c) met his own boring blue ones as he glanced up at her.
Seeing the smile on her face made Link return it almost immediately, a blush creeping up his neck and slowly taking over his face.
But it was quite short-lived.
Just then, her eyes snapped to the sky, landing on the clouds. A tiny sliver of the moon peaking out above them.
"Oh, no," she muttered. She looked back to him, a terrifying amount of fear in those beautiful eyes. "I need to go. Don't go anywhere. And, whatever you do," she placed a hand over his. "Please don't follow me. You will get hurt. And, if I can help it, you will not."
She shot to her feet, her sword already strapped to her back. "Promise me."
Link stood. "I don't want you getting hurt, though. You always come back half dead, and it kills me inside."
Her eyes were brimming with tears. "Promise me."
Link has never seen (Y/n) cry, and he sure as hell never wanted to. "Only if you can promise me you won't get hurt."
(Y/n) shook her head, sending her (h/l) (h/c) hair flying around her head. "Please." Her voice broke. "Please promise me."
"I can't see you come back like that again."
(Y/n) began to back away. North. The direction she always went. "Please." Her voice was hardly more than a whisper now.
"(Y/n)."
The sound of her own name caused the tears to begin to fall.
"Please. Stay here where you're safe."
"Can you come back any earlier?"
A slight smile shone through her tears. "I'll try."
Link tried his best to smile back. "I promise," he breathed.
