It had been a few days since Zelda fell to the Surface, and Link was finally ready to go down and get his best friend back.

Unlike what most people thought, Link had no romantic feelings for Zelda. But he still cared for his friend to the point where he was willing to leave Skyloft and retrieve her.

They were as close as siblings, not lovers.

"Master," Fi, the spirit in the Goddess Sword, said. "I suggest we go down to Faron Woods as soon as you are ready. We may not have as much time as we wish we could."

Link nodded, having heard the same speech more than just once these past few days. "I know, Fi. I'm ready now, so let's go. I just fly to the pillar of light and descend below the clouds, right?"

She nodded before returning to the sword.

"Well, looks like we should go."

Without thinking twice, Link ran and dove off Skyloft, letting himself free fall for a while before calling his crimson Loftwing.

The soft feathers beneath him calmed his nerves.

They always said there was no humans left on the Surface. I wonder if their right.

The pillar of light was almost under him.

Let's go.

Without feelings of extreme fear, he lept.

"So this is the Surface," he said aloud, taking in the amount of green around him.

It truly was beautiful, though very different.

There were so many trees, and birds that could fit in his palm. Even Loftwing chicks weren't that small.

And flowers. So many different flowers that covered the open areas.

"It's nice, isn't it?" An unfamiliar voice said behind him.

He whirled around, his sword and shield out in a heartbeat.

The girl he just threatened put up her hands, shrinking slightly in fear. "T-there's no need to do that," she said slowly. "If you want something to fight, I can show you where a few Bokoblins are. They're getting kind of annoying."

Link's sword and shield were returned to their respective spots. "A few what?"

The girl's hands fell to her sides, one resting on her hip. "Look, Sky Child. Bokoblins are everywhere down here. I'll show you, since I don't really feel like explaining."

The girl's smirk was enough to send a a blood rush to his cheeks.

"May I ask your name?" she asked, walking past him and up a near-invisible path toward the woods.

"Link," he muttered, scratching his neck.

"Hm. Just as strange as hers. I'm (Y/n)." She stuck out a hand, facing him while walking backward.

He tentatively shook it. "Who is she? The one you're referring to."

She turned. He could've sworn her smile began to melt, but he could no longer see it. "A few days ago, a girl around our age came through here. I helped her find where she needed to go, fought off some Bokoblins, Deku Babas, and Deku Hornets. She was unharmed when she left. I don't know how she's faring at Eldin, though." She ran a hand through her shining (h/c) hair. "But a friend of mine should've been there to guide her. I can only hope she was there."

His heart quickened its pace ever so slightly. "Did you happen to catch her name?"

Her shoulders fell about half an inch. "Zelda," she muttered.

"Where did she go?"

"I told you," (Y/n) said tightly. "She is no longer here. Another would have told you the same thing had you not been so persistent in asking questions."

His face heated a little more. "Sorry. I'm just worried."

"As most people are when their significant other is in life-threatening danger."

Link's brows fell. "She's not my significant other. She's more of a sister to me."

(Y/n) stiffened and seemed to relax at the same time.

"Why would you care?" he asked quietly. "We've known each other for about 5 minutes."

She stopped completely. Link stopped, a few feet from her out of respect.

"There are many things you have yet to learn," she said. "It would probably bother your schedule, so-"

"Tell me, please."

She sighed, before turning to him. Those (e/c) of hers boring into his soul. "We might want to sit down then."

As soon as they were situated, Link on a nearby rock and (Y/n) on the grassy floor of the forest, she spoke again.

"I assume you know the history of your realm and how it was put there, so I'll spare you the story. The Goddess of legend has many servants, one of them residing in your sword. The ones like us, who have our souls reincarnating when needed, could also be considered servants. You have the soul of the hero, the same one who helped win the War many, many years ago. Your friend, Zelda, has the soul of the Goddess herself. My soul, though seemingly insignificant, is also part of this cycle. I was there all those years ago, I am here now, and I will be there when you are. My soul is bound to yours. The Goddess and her sisters loved the hero's soul to the point where they wanted to ensure his happiness. Consequently, they took my soul and bound it to yours. Once we are together, we cannot be taken apart, and we are destined to a... Future together." She paused, looking down at her hands. "But there have been times where the hero's soul falls for another, and seemingly has a great life. But, no matter what, what the Goddesses will is what comes to pass. And so..." She cut herself off, forcing herself to take a shaky breath. "I've endured pain of heart that should never have existed, according to the Goddess, at least. I suppose you could say I was nervous when we first met. I've been "blessed"," she used her fingers to make quotation marks. "To remember every life I have lived, and I will remember every life I will go through as they happen. While your spirit, whatever the Goddess was thinking, cannot remember. So, here I am, explaining the cycle once again." She took another long breath. "Though, this time, I've managed to tell you before anything could happen, ensuring that nothing should go too terribly wrong. At least I hope."

Link let it all soak in before speaking. "Well, I guess it helps that you are the most beautiful person I've ever met." Her sparkling (e/c) eyes locked into his own. "And I don't think I want to leave you. Ever."

A genuine smile slowly graced her perfect features. "You always knew how to make me feel so much better." She stood, sitting next to him and wrapping her arms around his strong frame. They both buried their faces into each other's necks.

"As soon as you're done with your adventure," she muttered in his ear. "Come find me. I'll be here, waiting."

His arms tightened around her body. "I can't wait."

I kind of took the idea of this oneshot from a book that I'm still awaiting the next chapter for. It's called "Eternity [Link x Reader]" by UnlikelyKing. If you ever get a chance, go read it. It is absolutely AMAZING!! I give all the credit to them.

And a part two is coming later, just FYI.
